University of Twente Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science Department of Mathematical Sciences offers a tenure track position as ***Assistant Professor in Discrete Optimization*** We are looking for young and enthusiastic candidates with a PhD in any relevant area of Mathematics, Computer Science, or Operations Research, and a track record in Discrete Optimization or closely related disciplines. We are particularly interested in strengthening our group in the direction of algorithmic game theory or mechanism design, but this is not a prerequisite. Starting date is flexible, with a clear preference before September 2009. The department of Mathematical Sciences has some 60 permanent scientific staff and offers undergraduate, MSc and PhD programmes in the field of applied mathematics, including statistics and operations research, systems and control, and computational mechanics. The position is affiliated to the chair Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Programming, currently with 6 permanent scientific staff, teaching assistants, plus a varying number of PhD students and post- docs. Teaching may involve courses in the following curricula: Bachelor in Applied Mathematics, master in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, as well as PhD courses of the Networks LNMB (Dutch Network on the Mathematics of Operations Research) and EIDMA (Euler Institute for Discrete Mathematics and its Applications). Teaching language is Dutch in the bachelor program, otherwise English. Mastering the Dutch language is not a prerequisite, but a medium term goal. The position is a tenure track or tenured position, depending on background and experience of the applicant. Salary ranges from 3060,- to 4167,- Euro gross per month.
