University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) at NASA Ames,

Mountain View, California

Position Description:

The candidate will be conducting research to optimize airport

surface traffic operations to increase efficiency and throughput of

airport operations. The research area includes analysis of current

surface traffic data, development of optimization algorithms for

taxiing and runway scheduling in the presence of uncertainty and

evaluation of integrated surface traffic algorithms in both fast-

and real-time simulation environments. The candidate must possess

strong knowledge and experience in analyzing data, formulating large

scale optimization problems and solving them in MATLAB and/or CPLEX.

The candidate needs to be familiar with the implementation of such

solutions in fast- or real-time high-fidelity simulation programs

for evaluation purposes. Familiarity with air traffic operations on

surface and terminal airspace will definitely be a plus. The

candidate will work with peer researchers in a highly interactive

environment. The candidate must have a MS or Ph.D. degree in one of

the following majors: aerospace, civil, industrial, or mechanical

engineering.
