History, and Human Rights SLC is one of the 7 smaller learning communities at New Dorp High School. Students in the SLC take enriching electives such as: Law and Literature, Human Rights Violations, Civil War, The History of the American Minority, The American Presidency, Social History, and Virtual Enterprise Law.Our SLC is funded by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Due to their funding and support, we are able to take the students on trips to enhance what they are learning in class. Students visit Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Ellis Island, Harlem's Apollo theater, and Washington, D.C.The Gilder Lehrman Institute also provides funding for our Saturday Academy. This was created to give you access to your teachers if you were to have any questions based on the project and to also post interesting information that you have learned in your classes.
