The Law. History, and Human Rights SLC is one of the 7 smaller learning communities at New Dorp High School. Students in the SLC take enriching electives such as: Law and Literature, Human Rights Violations, Civil War, The History of the American Minority, The American Presidency, Social History, and Virtual Enterprise Law.

Our SLC is funded by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Due to their funding and support, we are able to take the students on trips to enhance what they are learning in class. Students visit Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Ellis Island, Harlem's Apollo theater, and Washington, D.C.

The Gilder Lehrman Institute also provides funding for our Saturday Academy. Students can take elective courses that are not offered during the regular school day. Click below to download an application for our Fall Academy.
