History, and Human Rights SLC is one of the 7 smaller learning communities at New Dorp High School. Students in the SLC take enriching electives such as: Law and Literature, Human Rights Violations, Civil War, The History of the American Minority, The American Presidency, Social History, and Virtual Enterprise Law.Our SLC is funded by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. Due to their funding and support, we are able to take the students on trips to enhance what they are learning in class. Students visit Philadelphia, Gettysburg, Ellis Island, Harlem's Apollo theater, and Washington, D.C.The Gilder Lehrman Institute also provides funding for our Saturday Academy.  Congratulations to our VE Law Team for taking 1st Place in the nation at the National Virtual Enterprise Competition!  We also congratulate our VE Management Team for taking 2nd place in the nation at the National Virtual Enterprise Competition! Download our "Year in Review" and learn about the highlights of our program! JOIN OUR FORUM: POST COMMENTS AND DEBATE WITH CLASSMATES AND TEACHERS! The link below allows you access to the Forum. This was created to give you access to your teachers if you were to have any questions based on the project and to also post interesting information that you have learned in your classes. You must register to get in. If you want to participate to get extra credit, I must know your member name. Once you get to the forum, click on Gilder Lehrman Test and the topics will be there.
