Method PracticeMETHOD PRACTICE
The aim of this section is to keep interested members of the KDS group informed with our current practices and workshops. This years practice has been a continuation from the Gibraltar May 2010 course, highlighting important points mentioned by sensei Harada. Practicing & incorporating kata body and mind, again emphasising and creating correct body condition and maintaining it throughout the Kata and practice.
One other point that we have been critical of is performing correct khion throughout the Kata. Correct technique application (tenno-kata) as method practice with a partner at slow speed and then its application in the Kata with the same imagination, flow and movement. We call this 'same time' approach to practice and a key element to establish an important foundation to work from. Bringing the kata iinto the practice and applying the practice in the kata.
Same time practice gives meaning and a sensation of control and coordination to stepping practices.
There are two important points that we have been very critical of: -
1. That this must be an honest practice by both partners, honest attack, correct and precise technique at a speed that we can identify when the attackers body is broken, whilst maintaining correct body condition.
2. The speed of the practice does not compromise correct khion and correct footwork coordination. It is better to start with a slow practice, gradually speeding up, obviously aiming to obtain the same result at max speed.
Same time practice approach is One of our main emphasis in our practice sessions. This is how we bring Kata into the practice, creating a solid platform to work from and consequently giving meaning to stepping and harmoisation with our partner. Once this basic elements are practiced & understood, we can then enrich the practice by adding attacking and defensive techniques. Results start to happen with minimal effort.
