To enroll and receive college credit, STUDENTS MUST: 1. Have a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 (for all of the above classes). 2. Meet the ACT requirement if there is one. 3. Complete the necessary registration form (this is a signed contract). 4. Have PARENT’S/GUARDIAN’S signature on registration form. 5. Pay the initial deposit by the specified deadline. 6. Pay the total bill by the specified deadline. If a payment plan is available, the balance must be paid by the end of the semester that the course is offered. Enrollment Process: The different college institutions each have different enrollment procedures. Read course descriptions included at the end of this document for more information about enrollment and payment procedures that are specific for each course. Keep in mind that different colleges have different fees and deadlines. Try not to get your colleges and deadlines mixed up! No Reimbursement: Because the tuition costs for most classes have been lowered, there will be no reimbursements to students at a later date. Pay your account balances at the specified times! A service charge may be applied to accounts that are not paid in full at the time of registration. Full payment must be made during the semester that the student is enrolled in the course. Course Descriptions:
English Composition I (EN 110 through Central Methodist University) This course focuses on techniques of topic development, drafting, and revision to help students write clear, concise sentences, paragraphs, and essays. This course includes the study of grammar, syntax, and diction and their relationship to effective writing. Offered first semester. 3 credit hours. Registration: Students will register during regular class time at school no later than the second week of September. The full fee for the class ($210) must be paid upfront by check or credit card.
English Composition II (EN 111 through Central Methodist University) EN111 continues the mastery of techniques of topic development, drafting, and revision but focuses more on developing organizational patterns (e.g. narration, process, comparison, definition, and cause and effect.). Students will practice these patterns through writing several essays, including a research essay. The course also includes the study of grammar, syntax, and diction and their relationship to effective writing. Prerequisite: C or better in EN110. Offered second semester. 3 credit hours. Registration: Students will register during regular class time at school no later than the second week of January. The full fee for the class ($210) must be paid upfront by check or credit card.
Speech Communication Skills (CT 101 through Central Methodist University) This course focuses on the study of the theory of speech communication with emphasis on the development of specific skills in the on-on-one and public speaking situations. This course is required of all students at most colleges and universities. Offered first semester. 3 credit hours Registration: Students will register during regular class time at school no later than the second week of September. The full fee for the class ($210) must be paid upfront by check or credit card.
Health Education (PE 105 through North Central Missouri College) The course addresses personal health concerns from a holistic standpoint and emphasizes strategies to adapt or change your behavior to promote health and prevent disease. Offered first semester. 2 credit hours. Registration: Students will register during regular class time during the first week of school. Students must turn in registration forms and a deposit of $150 to the guidance counselor no later than Monday, August 29th. Payment can be check or credit card. Total cost of the class is $180.
National Government (PL 216 through North Central Missouri College) Note: You cannot be in this class unless you are paying for the college credit This is a basic introductory course to acquaint the student with the workings of the national government and the political system which bolsters it. Emphasis is placed on governmental structure, using the historical approach to answer the questions as to why the United States system has developed in the manner that it has. The Constitution is dealt with in detail as the source of governmental power (Meets the Constitutional Requirements). Offered first semester. 3 credit hours. Prerequisite: ACT Reading score of 18 or acceptable ASSET score as administered by NCMC. Registration: Students must turn in registration forms and a deposit of $150 to the guidance counselor no later than Friday, August 19th. Please note that this deadline is before actually starts. General Psychology (PY 121 through North Central Missouri College) Note: You cannot be in this class unless you are paying for the college credit. This is a survey course dealing with the basic facts and principles of human behavior, providing an understanding of why and how people think and act as they do, emphasizing the manner in which the environment influences people. Offered second semester. 3 credit hours. Prerequisite: ACT Reading score of 18 or acceptable ASSET score as administered by NCMC. Registration: Students will register during regular class time during the first week of January. Students must turn in registration forms and a deposit of $150 to the guidance counselor no later than Friday, January 6th. Payment can be check or credit card. Total cost of the class is $270.
General Chemistry (CHE 111 through Missouri Western State University) This year-long course is an overview of the basic concepts of chemistry: atomic theory and periodic system, chemical calculations, oxidation-reduction, states of matter, theory of chemical bonding, and atomic structures. Offered as an all-year course. 5 credit hours. Prerequisite: ACT Math score of 20. Registration: A representative from Missouri Western will visit the classroom early in the school year to explain registration. Students will be allowed to set up a payment plan. Total cost of the class is $470.
College Algebra (MT 118 through Northwest Missouri State University) Topics include functions and graphs, systems of equations and inequalities and analytic geometry. This class is designed for students who plan continued study in college mathematics. It will satisfy the General Education requirement in mathematics for most college majors. Offered first semester. 3 credit hours. Prerequisite: ACT Math score of 20. Registration: Ms. Sparks will explain registration procedures during regular class time at the beginning of first semester. No deposit is required. Students/parents will be billed for the class, and payments can be made. Total cost of the class is approximately $291.
General Statistics (MT 114 through Northwest Missouri State University) This course focuses on basic concepts of decision making, central values, variability, probability and statistical inference, elementary concepts of correlation, parametric tests of significance, and regression analysis. Offered second semester. 3 credit hours. Prerequisite: ACT Math score of 20. Registration: Ms. Sparks will explain registration procedures during regular class time at the beginning of second semester (January). No deposit is required. Students/parents will be billed for the class, and payments can be made. Total cost of the class is approximately $291.
Calculus I (MT 120 through Northwest Missouri State University) This year-long course is an introduction to single-variable calculus. Topics include intuitive treatment of limits and continuity, differentiation of elementary functions, curve sketching, extreme values, areas, rates of change, definite integral and fundamental theorem of calculus. Offered as an all-year course. 4 credit hours. Prerequisite: ACT Math score of 20. Registration: Ms. Sparks will explain registration procedures during regular class time at the beginning of first semester. No deposit is required. Students/parents will be billed for the class, and payments can be made. Total cost of the class is approximately $388.
