Getting a spot in GHHH!

GET HO HO HO! consists of two separate one-day tournaments. Many teams will play just one day, but more and more are playing both days. You'll have a better chance of getting in if you're flexible as to which day you'll play. Last year 54 teams played over two days.

Pickup players

Individual players looking for teams and teams looking for players may post on the GHHH! message board. If you'd rather not have your info posted publicly or want help, contact us directly.

Placing a team bid

If you'd like spot in GHHH! for your team, email us at:
gethohoho -at- gmail -dot- com

We are still accepting bids for GHHH! 2011.  We currently have room both days, but get your bid in ASAP.  If you'd like a spot for your team, email with team name, desired division and a description of your team's skill level, and which day or days you wish to play (Saturday or Sunday or both days-- better if you're flexible).  We'll get right back to you to let you know if there's room.

OFFICIAL BID ITEMS (1-2):
We need two things from your team before your spot is confirmed and you're placed on the final schedule:

(1) BID INFO (see below) - Email to gethohoho -at- gmail -dot- com
(2) DEPOSIT - Send via Paypal

(1) BID INFO:
   1. Team name (and/or school).
   2. Day/s of play (Saturday only, Sunday only, Saturday & Sunday).
   3. Contact info (email and cell phone reachable at the tourney) for two (2) representatives.
   4. Brief description of team (for publication): We ask for info on your team just for us for seeding, division placement, etc. below, but we also need a version to be published on the web site for other teams to see.  That version should include some real info about your team.  Trust us-- teams are interested in that much more than a display of your poetry/comedy skills.  So include something about who you are, where you're from, what your connection is, any extra Christmassy things you'll be doing, wearing, drinking, sharing, etc.  We reserve the right to edit, add info if necessary.
   5. Detailed description of team (not for publication):  Where is the team based? Who are the players? Are they all from one city or alumni of one college? What teams do they play for? Give an assessment of your team's level of strength and back it up with tourney results if possible. Alternatively, compare to other teams with published results, etc.  Even if we know you, what version of your team will you be bringing on December 4th and/or 5th? Be complete-- this will help with pools, seeding, division placement, etc.  Any special reasons your team would be a good addition to the tournament?  Plans to win the War on Christmas?  Anything special you're doing for the tournament-- holiday attire, caroling, treats for other teams, presents for the tourney staff?  Anything else about your team we should know?
   6. Division preference (optional):  There are 4 divisions each day.  If you've been to GHHH! before, you may have an idea what division your team belongs in or that you wish to be in.  You may request a division, but keep in mind that the strength of each division may vary each day, and may be different from previous years.  We'll try to accommodate appropriate division requests, but division placement depends on overall seeding and is not guaranteed.

Please include the bid info (1-6) in the body of the email, not as an attachment.

(2) DEPOSIT:
To complete your bid, send a deposit of $25 per day requested via Paypal to gethohoho@gmail.com. No team will be placed on the schedule without a deposit. The deposit will be refunded in full after the tournament as long as you show up and play, or may be subtracted from the tournament fee. You do not need to pay the whole tourney fee in advance, though you may pay the tournament fee and skip the deposit.  Deposit amount is the same for all teams, whether they're playing one or two days.  Important: please write your team name, day/s of play, and primary contact name/email in the message field.  If you can fund the transaction with your Paypal balance or linked bank account (not a credit or debit card), use the "personal" tab "payment owed" option, so no fees apply.

UPA/USAU ROSTERING:
We hope to be able to avoid USAU sanctioning this year.  However there is a possibility that in the end it will be necessary.  At this time, teams do not need to submit an official USAU roster, and layers do not need to have USAU membership.  Please try to be prepared if this changes.  We'll announce it via to all registered teams and can help with any problems.

TOYS FOR TOTS:
We ask that each team bring at least one toy to be donated to Toys for Tots.  Please bring your (new, unwrapped) toys to the tourney HQ at your assigned field site.  More info on Toys for Tots:  http://cape-cod-ma.toysfortots.org

TOURNAMENT FEE:
The tournament fee is $150 for one day and $280 for two days, plus at least one toy to be donated to Toys for Tots.  Fees can be paid by check or cash at the tournament or by mail.  Fees can also be paid online via Paypal.  If you wish to pay the full tournament fee in advance, you do not also have to pay the deposit.

You may pay the deposit or full tourney fee below.  You may use a credit or debit card and a Paypal account is not needed.  An extra $5 to cover transaction fees is included in the tourney fee options.

If you have a Paypal account, you may also pay directly via paypal.  Send the funds to: gethohoho -at- gmail -dot- com

How we pick teams

Mainly we're looking for teams that will make the GHHH! tourney a better experience for everyone else. Usually this is just who you are, that's why a complete team description is so important. Maybe your team is lots of fun, or always has great spirit, or is just really good and will raise the level of competition, or is a team that rarely plays in this area, or is a GHHH! favorite that comes every year, etc. It could also be something you'll do special for GHHH!-- teams have played in costumes, worn holiday attire, given out Christmas cookies, sung songs, done holiday-themed cheers, etc. Most teams get in without doing anything special, but if your team is psyched to do something like that, please let us know.

The highest level of spirit/sportsmanship has become a hallmark of GHHH! and is expected of all teams. This does not preclude being as competitive as possible-- it may in fact require it. Understand that a high level of competitiveness and goofy fun go hand-in-hand at GHHH!. That team playing in Mexican wrestler disguise, carolling to you at halftime, wearing Santa skirts, or passing out Goldschlager shots might be made up of beginning college players or nationals-level stars. We generally accept the strongest possible teams for division 1, which can be as competitive as any northeast coed tournament. However, we love to support new and developing teams, and divisons 2 and 3 are equally important parts of the tournament.

HOT COCOA BIDS: Last year teams that offered to serve hot cocoa to teams in their pools were given extra points on their bids. This was a very popular idea, but unfortunately, come tourney time, we weren't equipped to run the program and our staff served all the hot drinks. This year we hope to get it right. Here's how it works: We'll provide all equipment and supplies as well as assistance in getting started. Your team cooks up the hot cocoa and apple cider right at your field for serving to nearby teams. In addition to get extra consideration on your bid, you'll have the pleasure of meeting players from other teams and a steady supply of hot drinks to keep you warm.

**No offense to those who have other traditions and don't celebrate Christmas. We love to get bids celebrating other December holidays. The Santa/reindeer/snowman/mistletoe overload at the tournament is unavoidable however.  As Mr. Garrison says, "Merry #%&#@ Christmas to you."
