The appointment will take a minimum of 40 minutes (typically allow for 60 minutes). We seldom run late, feel free to arrive a little early if you wish.
Our usual clinic routine is as follows:
- Completion of booking documentation - if not already provided.
- Measurement of height and weight.
- After a brief clinical history, a Skin prick test will be performed by a specialist allergy nurse.
- Lung function (if required)
- Specialist consultation with Dr Du Toit
- Blood testing (if required; we will always offer Local Anaesthetic cream patches prior to this)
- A detailed summary is generated which will reach you (blood results depending) within 14 days. The summary will be addressed to your referring Doctor and cc'ed to the patient/family.
- Please let the practice know if you would prefer that the consultation summary did not travel by email. We are needing to rely more and more on email correspondence given the current postal strikes.
- You will also be copied on all results for your records.
- An appropriate emergency plan will be generated.
- If indicated, a consultation with a specialist paediatric allergy dietitian - will take place, usually on a separate date.
- If indicated, an incremental supervised challenge (to a drug or food) will be booked.
