Intramuscular (IM) administration of epinephrine is the primary therapy in the emergency management of more severe reactions (anaphylaxis) that may result from insect bites or stings, foods, drugs, latex, or other allergy triggers. Its efficacy lies in prompt administration after allergen exposure. Self-injectable epinephrine products have been designed for administration within minutes of the onset of symptoms. In children, a parent or other trained personnel may administer these products.
