Welcome to the Geography tools site. Geography tools today consist of GIS software and the data that they manipulate. Geography has long been more than knowing what the captial of Florida is or where the Amazon River is located. Dr. John Snow mapped out the occurances of Cholera in the late 1850's London to discover that it was transmitted from a tainted well. Geography was used to solve a real world problem. GIS is similarly more than making maps. GIS programs can take a concept or problem and explain it visually. A GIS can be a handy tool for teachers and students when trying understand connections and difficult concepts. There are many programs available free on the web. I will provide links to sites that contain reviews of those programs. Additionally, I will provide links to sites that contain free data and lesson plans for those interested in using GIS in their classrooms.

Lets get started.
