I LOVE birth. I have had a very fulfilling birth and want you to have the same! I enjoy birth so much that I want more kids soley for the experience of giving birth to them at home again!
As a doula I provide the following services:
- A continuous uninterrupted presence
- A knowledge and understanding of women
- A knowledge and understanding of emotions and physiology of labor
- Experience with other laboring women
- The ability to remain calm and objective
- A perspective on problems and options
- Advocacy of mother's wishes/goals
- Freedom from other obligations, other patients, tasks, clinical management, and hospital policies
- A knowledge of comfort measures.
By having the presence of a doula alone women are:
- 26% less likely to give birth by cesarean section
- 41% less likely to give birth with a vacuum extraction or forceps
- 28% less likely to use any analgesia or anesthesia and
- 33% less likely to be dissatisfied with or negatively rate their birth experience.
Continuous labor support by a doula has also been associated with greater benefits when it:
- begins in early labor
- is used in settings in which epidural analgesia was not routinely available and
- is used in settings in which women are not permitted to be accompanied by companions of choice (such as a spouse, partner, friend, or other family member).
Doula's and Dads
Doula's do NOT replace dad! The doula only helps enhance dad's role as a labor coach. Doula's help take all the intensity off of dad so he can be more intimately involved with his partner. The doula's skills and knowledge can help dad feel more relaxed and in turn allow the laboring women to be more relaxed during labor.
