Projects

Design a system that flexibly allows its 'creative aspect' to be inserted at either the beginning, middle, or end of the system's process.

Using sticks and audio recorders, collect sound samples around campus (don't miss the railings on the sides of the stairs leading across Kudzu Valley) and assemble random sections of samples into soundscapes.

Set up a system similar to Reich’s tape looks and see what happens. Could this be done, for example, with text, music, video, film, slides, etc?

Explore/create/recreate Eno’s ideas on generative art – specifically his sound and visual projects.

Create an example of a rhizome.

Use video, film, and/or TV as a light source and not a narrative source.

Text Jumble? Burroughs Cut-Up, Tzara’s Dada poem – any “generative” ways to do this – using the computer.

Create a piece that explores time – not in a narrative sense, but like Reich’s essay “Music as a Gradual Process”

  – you should be able to see, hear, smell, taste, etc that the piece is about time.

Create a system, process, machine that creates (sound, movement, image, etc) independent of you

 – so something you set into motion and then observe.

Explore some of the performance piece suggestions by members of the Fluxus group.

Explore ways of using technology (software, hardware, sound playback, instruments, etc) for things that they were not designed to do.

Collage - how many differnt mediums can this idea be used in? Must collage be static or can it be in motion?

White-out Collage - create collage - paint over with white paint - react to what bleeds through

Use the "DJ" format as a container to make art: the Torq product may assist in this

Create a painting of a song, or a song of a painting

Explore sound for its spatial possibilities.

Explore space for its sonic possibilities.
