Fluorite was used for carvings in both ancient Egypt and China. Fluorites natural bright translucency and brilliant colors are apparent in these two birds with their elongated tails. Their beaks are carved from jasper, a fine grained stone mostly used in carving cameos. Their feet are solid gold plated. These two are perched on a stunning quartz crystal cluster. The word crystal is derived from the Greek word meaning "clear ice." This particular specimen contains dozens of perfect transparent quartz crystals with colorless hexagonal prisms and pyramidal ends.
