A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Michael Matthews through Geek Review's feedback form. Mr. Matthews asked ME to review his new mouse that he had invented, called the Jelfin mouse. If not for Twitter, he would have never known that I existed. Of course, I accepted very gratefully, and was informed that I would be able to keep the mouse, and that the first batch of mice would hit the US in four weeks. It has almost been four weeks, so you can expect a new review to be popping up anytime soon! I, Joseph Schwenker, on behalf of Geek Reviews, and of myself, would like to thank Mr. Matthews for his acknowledgement of Geek Reviews. May your product help both of our businesses! |

Ooh! That title sounded like a book title! Anyway, I have recently been looking through Reviews, and have noticed that several of the posts there are not reviews! So, I have decided to delete them, but however, I will repost some of them here, just for future reference. *sniffles*
Show the Love. Give iPod Nano This Valentine's Day. Only $149.99.
If you are subscribed to the Apple News Letter, you may have received this message. So why am I writing an article about it? Because something isn't right... LIKE IT COSTS 150 DOLLARS!!! First of all, love is unpredictable. An iPod is predictable. So if something were to happen, like they make up an excuse and ditch you for someone else, your pocket will suddenly feel very empty. At this time, you will wonder, "Why did I blow 150 bucks on such a terrible person?" For $150, you could buy a lot of stuff for yourself, the Google Android, some Ubuntu T-Shirts, maybe a few new games, a new graphics card, or an IPOD FOR YOURSELF! The point is, if you have $150 in your pocket that feel particularly fidgety, then buy something, but NOT FOR YOUR GIRLFRIEND. You may even consider engraving, "This is mine. No Touchy!" on the back if you decide to buy an iPod. Although I am personally fond of the phrase, "If you can read this, you are too close to my iPod." So, even after you read this selfish article, if you still honestly want to buy someone an iPod, then follow this advice.
- Wait until you are married for ten years before you buy your spouse an iPod. They can wait. Seriously. Well, probably not, but still!
- Ask them if they love you with all of their heart, and as soon as you finish saying that, accuse them of lying to you! Then, make a sign that says, "Go Away!" and have the other side say, "That is your manufacturer, not your Operating System."
- Ask them why they never buy you anything.
- Say yes, then ask them for $150.
- Say yes, then buy them the cheapest, screenless MP3 Player in the store, then when she asks why you bought it for her, tell her that you didn't know the difference between an iPod and a pile of rusty gears running Windows Vista with 128 MB of RAM and integrated graphics.
- Buy them the iPod nano, then load it up with all of your favorite songs, and write-protect it.
- Never buy a pink iPod.
Although this was a really pointless article, I hope you will have learned one thing, which was that occassionally, I can write stupid articles, and you just wasted several minutes of your life that you can never get back.
2-D Games
It's here. We have finally gone completely into a 3-D world. Meaning that people no longer play PacMan at the arcade. Now, people stay at home, download their games through Steam, and play Team Fortress 2. Well, at least I do! It seems that 2-D games have almost completely gone out of style. However, I do notice that they still make 2-D games, a few being Flipword, and of course, the very annoying Pinball and Solitaire. The thing I notice about these games is that they are more addicting than today's modern 3-D games. For instance, have you ever seen or heard of someone addicted to a very simple game, like PacMan? iCarly gave a shoutout to PacMan, or as they called it, PacRat. You may notice that Freddy wasn't addicted to his space game, while Spencer was addicted to PacRat. I know of several people who have been addicted to such simple 2-D online games, and not today's modern 3-D games. Why? In my opinion, I think that it is because of system requirements. Most people use PC's. Because of the wide usage of these entry-level computers, people's computers can't run these humongous modern games, like Left 4 Dead or Team Fortress 2. The 2-D games run very well on old computers, being as they don't consume hardly any CPU, Memory, or Graphics power. Since more people have the opportunity to play them, regardless of their speculations, more people have a chance to get addicted. But that still leaves the question, “Why are 2-D games so addicting?” unanswered. We turn to my interviews for the answers.
“[I think they are] because they make you want to keep playing, and they are so fun! They really make you think.”
“[I think they are] because most 2-D games are more fun than 3-D games, for instance, PacMan is a really fun 2-D game.”
“I think they're less complicated and the time it takes to play the game is faster so you get more feedback on the 2-D games.”
All of these are good answers to the above question, but we still may never know why 2-D games are more addictive. Even if graphics get to the point where you can't tell the different between humans and video game characters, humans may still be playing PacMan and Invaders. So, next time you sit down to play PacMan on your ancient computer in your basement, be warned! Unlike Team Fortress 2, you can't stop playing. We must eat little ghosts! AAH! PacMan is not moving!
What is the Perfect Geeksmas Gift?
As you all know, Geeksmas is coming up very soon, thus, you are frantically trying to get a last minute gift for that third-cousin four times removed. As my science teacher said today, "I wish I could give you all the gift that you deserve." By that, he meant a laptop. Of course, none of us can afford laptops, unless you have a money tree, which I have almost finished making... Anyway, you don't want to give your third-cousin four times removed a cheap laptop held together with duct tape! Well, then this is the gift for you! Here, you will find the world's smallest laptop, the MacBook Helium, as well as an envelope for it. This laptop is less than 0.001 inches thick, and its size doesn't compromise quality. It works just as good as any other laptop! Just don't expect a wireless mouse to come with it, that comes separately. |

Yes, I am very obsessed with creating new interfaces for Geek Reviews. However, I spent more time working on this interface than any other. As a matter of fact, I am still working on it (I need to complete the "Help" page)! This interface was created to stop the collision of the navigation bar items on lower resolutions. Unless your monitor is smaller than your mouse, everyone will be able to see the navigation bar perfectly. Also, a new section is being created for Geek Reviews as we speak (er, as you read). Technology Basics, as it is called, will help to educate people on the basics of different devices. The first guide will be on Microsoft Windows, but you can expect many more guides to come in the future! Also, several new reviews and answers will be written after "Help" is completed, so stay tuned for more!

Hi everyone! I just went on Steam a few days ago and discovered that Mirror's Edge for PC is now $40 instead of $50. I also found an interesting game called Braid, which is $15. I just bought Mirror's Edge, and will be buying Braid soon. I strongly recommend Braid for those of you that do not have a wonderful graphics card, as well as for those who loved Mario or PacMan. Remember, in Braid you can learn from mistakes and undo the consequences. So if you want to undo buying the game, just hold down the shift key. (Just kidding!)

If you have noticed, you may have seen that the navigation bar is shorter than usual. Both Forums and Games are missing. Games was removed due to copyright issues (cough cough, excuse!) as well as because Geek Reviews is not a game site. Geek Reviews was founded in order to express my opinions about technology, as well as help the common technology user. I found that the Games section was what people found the most exciting about Geek Reviews, so, since Geek Reviews is not a "super-fun" site, I removed Games so that people would look at the substance of Geek Reviews: Articles, and Answers, News, Polls, Video of the Week, Video History, etc. Forums was removed due to a discovery that only collaboraters and owners can comment. I mistakenly thought that all users with a Gmail Account could post comments, but I was wrong. Hopefully there will be a way for Forums to re-open in the future. Thank you for your cooperation.

ぴおんぴおん ふむふむ Yeah! Yeah! Yes, I'm sure that you are very confused, for several reasons. First, you are confused on the lack of articles and updates in the last few days. Well, for the first few days, I had discovered a very, very awesome Japanese show called Shugo Chara, or, in English, My Guardian Characters. I discovered it after watching this video on Nico Nico Douga, a Japanese video network. It is hilarious. It is also on YouTube, if you want to search for "Angry German Kid is Watching Shugo Chara" there. Anyway, I was very interested in what show that was, and I found the introductions, and, after more searching, the entire video series on a decent site. The intro from the Angry German Kid video is here. The site with all of the episodes of Shugo Chara is here. Be sure to watch them in order, starting with one. They will make more sense that way. Keep in mind, though, that all of the videos are in Japanese with English subtitles. Anyway, after a few days of watching Shugo Chara, I contracted a cold. Again! I have caught colds more than three times this winter, although it is Spring now. So, I have not been feeling very good the past few days, but I still watched a lot of Shugo Chara. In a few days when I am feeling better, I will continue working on Geek Reviews and post some new articles. Thank you for your patience! |
