Data QA/QC

Chemical data QA/QC is a major item in GE-BICH 2009-11 workplan, as discussed at the Fourth Session of GE-BICH in January 2009 (details of the presentations and associated discussion points can be obtained from the GE-BICH IV report published on the IODE website).

Since GE-BICH IV, the following activities related to chemical data QA/QC have taken place or have been started:
  • Workshop on the Quality Control of Chemical Oceanographic Data Collections, Oostende, 8-11 February 2010 (Workshop report available);
  • Compilation of existing protocol documents - on-going;
  • Proposal for a QC flag scheme based on quantifiable and subjective tests - on-going;
  • Development of quantifiable QC tests for dissolved nutrients and oxygen - on-going;
  • Proposal for a scaled nomenclature to refer to levels of data processing for use in data management - on-going;
  • Proposal for parameter names, units and minimum metadata requirements for data reporting and exchange - on-going;
  • Compilation of climatologies relevant to chemical data QA/QC - on-going.
