Electrical Engineer

Upon receiving my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at UCLA in 2006 (major emphasis in Photonics, minor emphases in Electromagnetics and Biomedical Engineering), I became a full-time research staff engineer in the Applied Electromagnetics Lab of HRL Laboratories, LLC.  HRL, formerly known as Hughes Research Labs, is located in Malibu, CA.

Research Interests:

I currently work on compact GPS navigation and XM satellite radio antennas, automotive collision mitigation radar sensors, and millimeter wave imaging systems.  Basically, I focus on making the world a safer place by 1) helping future cars automatically avoid running into things (other cars, people, etc.) and 2) helping airport security personnel detect hidden weapons underneath people's clothes (plastic knives, liquid explosives, etc.).

Biography:

Kevin Geary received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2006 and 2002, respectively, and a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 2000.  In 2006 he joined the Applied Electromagnetics Laboratory of HRL Laboratories, LLC.  His research interests include conformal antennas, artificial impedance surfaces, radar, high-frequency electro-optic devices, RF-photonics, and millimeter wave imaging.  He has published over 25 technical papers and is a senior member of IEEE and a member of Eta Kappa Nu.
