Welcome

The Gulf Coast Association of Creative Writing Teachers
brings together teachers of writing, students, writers, editors, and publishers from Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and others from—or interested in— the Gulf Coast region and its writing.  Our annual conference each spring provides a chance to meet in a casual and friendly environment, with readings, panels, and the display and sale of books and literary magazines in Fairhope, AL at the University of South Alabama's Baldwin Campus.

This year our conference will take place on April 3rd and 4th at the Baldwin Campus of the University of South Alabama in beautiful Fairhope, AL.  Joel Brouwer, Jeanne Leiby, and Lu Vickers will be featured speakers.  The conference will include a reception (at the Fairhope American Legion Hall on the bay) on Friday, April 3rd sponsored by the Alabama Writers Forum.
Much of our program consists of readings by GCACWT members of their poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, and panels may be proposed.  We are now accepting requests to read and proposals for panels (March 22nd note: we are no longer accepting panel proposals) . (For more on panels see our Conference Program page.) Contact us at gulfcoastwriters@gmail.com

Conference Fees:
Faculty $40 (early registration $35, postmarked by March 15, 2009)
Unaffiliated writers $30 (early registration $25, postmarked by March 15, 2009)
Students $10
Fees include Friday reception, a Mexican-style dinner sponsored by the Alabama Writers Forum ( if you register before March 27th ).  Conference registration includes annual dues.

Information on registration, how to sign up to read or participate in panels, is on our Conference Registration Page.

Information on this year's contest is on our Student Writing Contest Page.
