The Great Bay eLearning Charter School Parents Group is committed to supporting school staff, promoting family involvement, developing and organizing activities that builds community, engaging students in activities that will enrich their social and educational opportunities and empowering students to foster a sense of responsibility as valued members of their school and larger community.

 
 
 
 
 
Strategy Plan
 
 
 
Goal 1:  Promote communication and school support.
 
 
Objectives
  • Increase parental awareness of activities
  • Increase parental involvement
  • Encourage student involvement in activities to foster a community and sense of inclusion within GBeCS.
Actions
  • Maintain a website that is updated regularly, contains news of events and/or contains a mailing list for updates
  • Maintain a facebook group that is updated regularly
  • Develop a list of parents with no internet access and find an alternative method of getting them timely information
  • Work with school staff to include all activity information in any newsletters to parents
  • Hold bi-monthly meetings to increase involvement, awareness and access to information. 
  • Coordinate an annual, end of summer, cookout to welcome new parents and students and introduce them to the GBeCS community
  • Organize parent volunteers (and student volunteers, when applicalbe) to attend Coop Board meetings
 
 
Goal 2:  Ensure school traditions
 
 
Objectives 
  • Draw on experiences from past events
  • Purchase, as needed, and maintain supplies that can be repurposed and/or shared for many events and activities
  • Fundraise for activities that benefit the staff and students at GBeCS
  • Organize subcommittes to organize/run each event, with the support and resources of the larger group
  • Encourage friendly competitions between the Advisories to develop group/school spirit
Actions
  • Organize major, annual events at the school (Yard Sale, Prom Senior Luncheon & Senior Reception)
  • Supply funds for yearbooks for seniors
  • Organize and run fundraisers throughout the year
  • Supply funds to offset costs of Senior Trip    
  • Create frequent seasonal/fundraising advisory competitions, to earn the "Advisory Champion Award" 
  • Use part of fundraising monies to purchase supplies that are typically rented for various events & activities
 
 
Goal 3:  Provide support for students and staff wishing to organize various events or activities at/for the school
  
 
Objectives 
  • Better coordination of needs and resources
  • Encourage creativity and ideas from individual students/advisories
  • Find resources that are needed for class projects, advisories, school
  • Empower students to choose and create events/activities
Actions
  • Fundraise for activities that benefit the staff and students at GBeCS
  • Develop a request procedure for Parents Group assistance
  • Post school "Wish List" on website
  • Work with teachers to identify students wishing to be advisory/grade representatives (student council?)
  • Have student representatives attend and participate in Parents Group meetings

 

Goal 4:  Provide more community service opportunities and choices for students
 
 
Objectives
  • Foster a sense of community participation
  • Encourage students to choose and/or develop their own community service projects
  • Enhance GBeCS's image within the larger community 
Actions
  • Maintain record of community service hours
  • Provide updated community service log to advisors monthly
  • Develop a list of community service opportunities and contacts
  • Use tie-dye shirts, name badges and signage to create a brand for the school that is readily recognizable to the community
  • Obtain a list of students with media permissions/restrictions from the school
  • Promote community service projects through our website, local newspapers and other media as often as possible
