The Golden Age of Cinema Begins

< Back to the 1910s | Forward to the 1930s >
All Decades | 1900 | 1910 | 1920 | 1930 | 1940 | 1950 | 1960 | 1970 | 1980 | 1990 | 2000 |

My Top Picks

  1. Nosferatu, eine Symphonie des Grauens (1922)
It's easy to think that Max Shrek really was a vampire.  The special effects are top notch in this film and unrivalled almost until colour.

  2. Metropolis (1927)
Wow... So many moments.  The rock soundtrack version is pretty good too.

  3. The Gold Rush (1925)
The best bit is when he eats his shoes.

  4. The General (1926)
I wasn't expecting much but wow... this was really impressive and very funny.

Notable Mentions ("Surprise" Films)

  1. Steamboat Willie (1928)
  2. The Thief of Bagdad (1924)
