| When I bought this mobile, it was slow as hell. And after I'd installed all my favorite apps, it turned even slower, and froze completely 3-4 times a day. A pretty useless device in other words. I found this great user-forum at http://eten-users.eu/. They have cooked ROM's and plenty of guides on hacks and optimization tips. I have not used a cooked ROM yet, but what I did was to download the latest official ROM from E-TEN's website, and choose not to install anything of the E-TEN software exept the Task Manager, the wireless stuff and the GPRS Wizard. Note: some of the stuff still get installed, so I had to remove it after the ROM upgrade. Then I followed lots of optimization tips on registry hacks, so many of them that I don't remember all anymore and I'm not sure if they did help... But the most important one is to to increase the Font System Cache to 32MB. This will increase the speed dramatically, espesially when browsing through contacts, your messages or when surfing. It's an easy fix with the great tool; PocketToolman. Install it, start it and look through OS Tweaks. PocketToolman also contains a bunch of other tweaks and adjustments like not turning off WiFi when suspended. Highly recommended tool! But still my device was unstable, so I started removing all my favorite applications. These where the ones that made it freeze up:- Agenda One 2.2 - Spb Mobile Shell 2.0 After some research I've found that these two suck up 15-20MB of RAM when running... each! Sadly these are my favorites, and have always worked fine on HTC devices. Since this is my first VGA device, and there is not a lot of VGA devices out there, I'm hoping it's related to VGA, and that there will be updates that makes it possible for me to use them again. Another note: I've also tried SBSH iLauncher. Although it's a great utility and don't make the device crash, it made the device notably slower. And of course: MemMaid is a fantastic tool, especially the ability to schedule automatic clean up and memory optimization each night f.ex. Also, since I live in a country with poorly developed 3G coverage I save a lot of battery on turning of 3G, only using GSM/EDGE. I can always turn it on again if I really need 3G, like when using it as a modem for my PC. |
