Learning a Lesson from Mahabharata (The Great Epic)

When Yudhistar Maharaj was ruling this planet, Bhima used to help in solving problems of people, hence people who ever has any questions/problems would come to Bhima and ask him for help. One day, one citizen came and asked Bhima that he noticed a strange thing that day that his fence is moving into other’s place and he is wondering why it happened like that.

Bhima can help if a demon is troubling but not these kind of puzzles so he asked him to approach Yudhistar Maharaj. On the same day, another citizen came and told that he came across with a strange thing that he had a big pot with full of water, he poured that water into small pots then he poured back from the small pots to big pot but surprisingly only half is filling into that big pot. Bhima not knowing what to say, he asked them to contact Yudhistar
Maharaj.

    Another person came to Bhima and said that he saw a strange thing
that a big elephant is passing through from a needle hole but surprisingly
it’s tail got stuck in that hole. Bhima again referred him to Yudhistar
Maharaj. Another person came and said that he saw big rock in the street and big big personalities are not able to move but a sadhu came and by waving his Sanyasa danda, it moved. Bhima thinking that it’s bad day for him and all are coming with these strange questions which he cann’t help, so he referred them to Yudhistar Maharaj.

They all went to Maharaj Yudhistara and asked about these questions, then

Yudhistar Maharaj said that, all these qualities shows that kali yuga is
coming and he explains ......

The first symptom is one of the citizen’s fence is moving into other’s area

shows that people are interested in what other’s have and feel unhappy why
they don’t have, then think a way to aquire them either hook or crook.


The second symptom is the big pot with full of water when it is poured into
small pots and pour back into big pot, he noticed only half only, which
means that one can expect 50% love/affection/help from others compared what
you did to the same person.

The third symptom is big elephant is going through a needle but the tail is

stuck, it means that people are ready to spend a huge chunk of their
income/strength/resource for the sensesatisfaction of thier family, friends
and love(Personal sense gratification )but when it comes to Bhagavan and
Bhagavatha seva they are not ready to spend a little bit also.

The fourth symptom is, big rock not moved by persons who are having lot of

strength but a sadhu moved that rock just by waving his danda, which means
that one can get rid of all their unlimited sins, just by performing
Namasankirtanam.

Though there are so many faults in this kaliyuga, the good thing is, just by

chanting the holy names of the lord, one can get upto the highest benefit of
liberation as mentioned in SB 12.3.51 that


My dear King, although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is still one

good quality about this age: Simply by chanting the name of Lord Sri Krsna,
one can become free from material bondage and be promoted to the
transcendental kingdom of Vaikunta.

Gratitude for God’s Gifts

If we are at all aware of how dependent we are on God–for the air we

breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the very ability to eat

and drink and breathe, to think and feel and will, and to walk, talk, and

sense–we will feel grateful and want to reciprocate God’s kindness. We will

want to do something for He (or She or They) who has done, and continues

to do, so much for us.

 

Often we take things for granted until we lose them. I use my right hand to

chant on meditation beads, and one morning I found that I had severe

arthritic pain in my hand and could no longer use it for chanting. I had

taken the use of my hand for granted, but when its use was lost, I resolved

to never take my hand for granted and to always use it in the best way in

God’ service.

 

How, in a general sense, can we attempt to return some of God’s favor,

some of God’s care–and love–for us? In a talk, my spiritual master, Srila

Prabhupada, gave one answer:

 

“Whatever you have got by pious or impious activities, you cannot change.

But you can change your position, by Krsna consciousness. That you can

change. Other things you cannot change. If you are white, you cannot

become black, or if you are black, you cannot become white. That is not

possible. But you can become a first-class Krsna conscious person. Either

you are black or white, it doesn’t matter. This is Krsna consciousness.


Therefore our endeavor should be how to become Krsna conscious. Other

things we cannot change. This is not possible.

 

tasyaiva hetoh prayateta kovido na labhyate yad bhramatam upary adhah tal

labhyate duhkhavad anyatah sukham kalena sarvatra gabhira-ramhasa [SB

1.5.18]

 

Kalena, by time, you will get whatever you are destined. Don’t bother about

so-called economic development. So far as food is concerned, Krsna is

supplying. Eko bahunam yo vidadhati kaman. He is supplying even cats and

dogs and ants. Why not you? There is no need of bothering Krsna, ‘God, give

us our daily bread.’ He will give you. Don’t bother. Try to become very

faithful servant of God. ‘Oh, God has given me so many things. So let me

give my energy to serve Krsna.’ This is required. This is Krsna

consciousness. ‘I have taken so much, life after life, from Krsna. Now let

me dedicate this life to Krsna.’ This is Krsna consciousness. ‘I will not

let this life go uselessly like cats and dogs. Let me utilize it for Krsna

consciousness.’”

 

I pray that I will dedicate this life and everything that I have–everything

that God has given me–fully in God’s service, following His pure devotees.

THE INTERVIEW WITH GOD

I dreamed I had an interview with God.

“So you would like to interview me?” God asked.

“If you have the time” I said.

God smiled. “My time is eternity.”
“What questions do you have in mind for me?”

“What surprises you most about humankind?”

God answered...
“That they get bored with childhood,
they rush to grow up, and then
long to be children again.”

“That they lose their health to make money...
and then lose their money to restore their health.”

“That by thinking anxiously about the future,
they forget the present,
such that they live in neither
the present nor the future.”

"That they live as if they will never die,
and die as though they had never lived.”

God’s hand took mine
and we were silent for a while.

And then I asked...
“As a parent, what are some of life’s lessons
you want your children to learn?”

“To learn they cannot make anyone
love them. All they can do
is let themselves be loved.”

“To learn that it is not good
to compare themselves to others.”

“To learn to forgive
by practicing forgiveness.”

“To learn that it only takes a few seconds
to open profound wounds in those they love,
and it can take many years to heal them.”

“To learn that a rich person
is not one who has the most,
but is one who needs the least.”

“To learn that there are people
who love them dearly,
but simply have not yet learned
how to express or show their feelings.”

“To learn that two people can
look at the same thing
and see it differently.”

“To learn that it is not enough that they
forgive one another, but they must also forgive themselves.”

"Thank you for your time," I said humbly.

"Is there anything else
you would like your children to know?"

God smiled and said,
“Just know that I am here... always.”
Software Professional (Poem)



I start my day by sitting on a chair,
giving my monitor a hard, cold stare,

by evening I m done with another coding,
Oh! this has become a routine so boring.

Like all, i entered this field with great hope,
jobs were many and there was plenty of scope,


dreams of joining the likes of Gates,
and a chance to make money in the states.

Thus, i entered the world of bytes,
only to realize that reality bites,

coz a programmer's life, isn't all that cozy,
the bed of software, isn't all that rosy.


Seeing the monitor all day n night,
have taken the power of my eyesight,

late to bed n late to rise,
has made me wealthy, but not healthy n wise.

working holidays, busy weekends,
no time for family, no time for friends,


my job steals most of my time,
helplessly, i watch this crime.

Just for few bits of money,
i forego those moments with my honey,

when i should be out - having fun,
I m telling a comp, what's to be done.


I hate u, yet i cant get away,
coz, i need the money u pay,

god, to thee i pray,
if there be one - show me the way.

God's Milk

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.
 
Offering his guests hot milk, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of milk and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.
 
When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said:
 
"If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.
 
Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.
 
What all of you really wanted was milk, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... And then you began eyeing each other's cups.
 
Now consider this: Life is the milk; the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live.
 
Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the milk God has provided us."
 
"The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything."
 
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

Lessons from a Butterfly and The Little Hut

                                     Lessons from a Butterfly

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole.

Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It was never able to fly.

What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand, was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God´s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our lives. Each hurdle in life is sent by Krishna to make us stronger, like an athlete training. The difficulties the coach puts on the athlete, are all designed to make him more competent. If Krishna allowed us to go through our lives without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as we could have been. We would never fly! Never lose heart in the face of impossible odds.

                                                     The Little Hut

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions.

    But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me?" he cried.

    Early the next day, however, he was wakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

    It's easy to get discouraged sometimes when things appear to be going badly. But we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of pain and suffering. Remember, next time your little hut is burning to the ground, it just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God. For all the negative things we have to say to ourselves, God has a positive answer for it.

Pass this on, you never know whose life may be in need of this today. Believe me, there are some weeks that we all feel our huts are burning.

The Socrates Triple Filter Test

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.

One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know what I just heard about your friend?"

"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything, I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called

the Triple Filter Test."

 

"Triple filter?"

 "That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend, it might be a good idea to take a

moment and filter what you're going to say. That's why I call it the triple filter test."

 

"The first filter is TRUTH. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..."

 

'All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second filter, the filter

of GOODNESS. Is what you are about to tell me about my friend something good?"

 

"No, on the contrary..."

 

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but you're not certain it's true. You

may still pass the test though, because there's one filter left: the filter of USEFULNESS. Is what you want to

tell me about my friend going to be useful to me?"

 

"No, not really."

 

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor good nor even useful, why tell it to

me at all?"

 

Friends, use this triple filter each time you hear loose talk about any of your near & dear friends.

Why India is Degraded ?

McCauley in his speech of Feb 2, 1835, British Parliament

"I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native self-culture and they will become what we want them, a truly dominated nation".

ONE PARAGRAPH THAT EXPLAINS LIFE!

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of CANCER. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied:
The world over -- 50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to
play tennis, half a million learn professional tennis, 50,000 come to the circuit,
5000 reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbeldon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the
final, When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD "Why me?". And today in
pain I should not be asking GOD "Why me?"

Ship Wrecked Prayers

A voyaging ship was wrecked during a storm at sea and only two of the men on it were able to swim to a small, desert like island. The two survivors, not knowing what else to do, agreed that they had no other recourse but to pray to God. However, to find out whose prayer was more powerful, they agreed to divide the territory between them and stay on opposite sides of the island.

The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man´s parcel of land remained barren. After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.

Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing. Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island. The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island.

He considered the other man unworthy to receive God´s blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.
As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"

"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them," the first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."

"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him. "He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings."

"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "What did he pray for that I should owe him anything?"

"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."

For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us.
ISN"T IT STRANGE:

Isn't it strange how $200 seems like such a large amount when you donate it to temple,
but such a small amount when you go shopping?

Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you're at the temple, and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie?

Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say when you're praying, but you have no trouble
thinking what to talk about with a friend?

Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Bhagavad-gita, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit at the last row or at the back of the temple room?

Isn't it strange how we need to know about an event for temple 2-3 weeks before the day so we can include it in our agenda, but we can adjust it for other events in the last minute?

Isn't it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about God to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?

Isn't it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say, but we question the words in the Bhagavatam and other scriptures?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in the spiritual world,
but they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?

Isn't it strange how we send jokes in e-mails and they are forwarded
right away, but when we are going to send messages about Krishna, we think about it twice before we send.
