A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
                                                              Leaf 3

Those who are actually learned, advanced in spiritual understanding, should preach Kṛṣṇa

consciousness
all over the world so that people may take to it and make their lives

successful.
(SB 4.31.19)

Leaf 3
A brāhmaṇa is called udāra because he utilizes his human intelligence for spiritual

realization. He uses that intelligence to preach Kṛṣṇa consciousness for the benefit of the

public, and therefore he is magnanimous.  (SB 3.31.17)
Leaf 3

Preaching means that you have to turn the rascals and unfortunate to become intelligent

and fortunate. That is preaching.
Lecture on BG 16.6 -- South Africa, October 18, 1975

Leaf 3
When we speak of desire we refer to desire for material sense gratification. Saintly persons

like Sanaka, Sanātana, Sanandana and Sanat-kumāra have no material desire, but

sometimes they travel all over the universe, out of their own accord, to preach devotional

service
. (SB 3.15.12)

This is the duty of a sannyāsī. If he is actually advanced and so ordered by his spiritual

master, he should preach Kṛṣṇa consciousness with logic and understanding, and if one is

not so advanced he should not accept the renounced order of life. (BG 16.1)

                                                                                             Leaf 3

PIE 1.11: Lord desires to bring all the living entities back to His king

... because He [the Lord] wants to maintain the creation, He desires the mass of people to

follow the right path of self-realization, which enables the living beings to enter into the

kingdom of God. The Lord wants the suffering human beings to come back home, back to

Him, and cease to suffer the threefold material pangs. The whole plan of creation is made in

that way, and one who does not come to his senses suffers in the material world by pangs

inflicted by the illusory energy of the Lord.  Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.10.2

Leaf 3
PIE 1.13: The Lord wants the suffering living beings to go back home, back to Godhead:

The Lord is ever increasingly merciful upon the fallen souls of this material world. The whole

cosmic manifestation is a chance for all to improve themselves in devotional service to the

Lord, and everyone is meant for that purpose.... The Lord gives the fallen souls the chance

for this highest perfection of life. (SB 3.9.25)

                                                                                                                      Leaf 3
The activity most recommended by Krsna and Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu for taking oneself

to the perfectional stage in this age of Kali-yuga is this sankirtana or preaching mission. So

if you will be able to form yourself into the first-class preacher, that will be best for you and

for others also. Your wife may also assist you in your important activities of spreading Krsna

consciousness.
Letter to Vaikunthanatha -- Bombay 29 December, 1972

Leaf 3

Even supposing there is wife at home, with children, that does not matter, that is no

hindrance to our spiritual life. And once we have accepted these things, occupational duties,

we should not lightly give them up. That is the point. Of course, our occupational duty is as

preachers of Krsna consciousness. So we must stick to that business under all

circumstances, that is the main thing. Therefore married, unmarried, divorced, whatever

condition of life, my preaching mission does not depend on these things.

Letter to Madhukara -- Bombay 4 January, 1973

                                                                                                            Leaf 3

It will be very pleasing to learn that in the morning you are now studying from one and one

half to two hours and in the evening you have class from forty five minutes to an hour, and

you are stressing the importance of lecturing and preaching with authoritative and

substantial arguments
.
Letter to Madhudvisa -- Los Angeles 26 March, 1970

Regarding your tendency to become angry in public, that is alright provided there is positive

reaction. Otherwise we do not wish to create any unnecessary enemies and you should

curb your anger by your advanced intelligence in Krishna Consciousness. We have to better

correct the faulty habits of the conditioned souls by persuasive authoritative preaching and

personal example
without stop.

Letter to Upendra -- Bombay 4 January, 1971                              Leaf 3

By the grace of Krishna I went to America in 1965, and now it is '77. After  eleven, twelve

years of struggle I was loitering in the street, who cared for me? But it is now being

recognized, that "Here is a movement."

Srimad-Bhägavatam 2.3.18-19 -- Bombay, March 23, 1977, At Cross Maidan Pandal

Leaf 3

I am here alone without any devotee companion. But I have come here to serve the Lord and

not for personal happiness. I am prepared to live in hell even if  I am able to serve the Lord.

Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu wanted that His mission should be propagated all over the world

and that is my objective. I do not mind the inconvenience personally felt.

Srila Prabhupada's diary, Sunday 6 March, 1966

                                                                                                        Leaf 3
PIE 1.14: The Lord is very kind to the forgetful souls

Sometimes He [the Lord] incarnates Himself or empowers a suitable living being to act for

Him, but in either case the purpose is the same.... The Lord, therefore, comes to propagate

the message of the kingdom of God, either personally as an incarnation or through His bona

fide representative as the good son of God. Such incarnations or sons of God are not

making propaganda for going back to Godhead only within the human society. Their work is

also going on in all types of societies, amongst demigods and those other than human

beings. (SB 1.2.34)

                                                                    Leaf 3

PIE 1.15: How the Lord helps reclaim the conditioned souls

The Lord is very kind to the forgetful souls. He therefore comes Himself and leaves behind

necessary instructions and also sends His good sons as representatives to call all the

conditioned souls back to Godhead. Recently, within the memory of everyone, Lord

Caitanya also appeared for the same purpose: to show special favor to fallen souls of this

age of iron industry. (SB 1.3.9)

PIE 1.16: The Lord's greatest glory: His causeless mercy upon the conditioned souls
    Leaf 3

... unalloyed devotees of the Lord appear on the earth just to execute the mission of the

Lord. The Lord desires the conditioned souls hovering in the material creation to be

reclaimed to go back home, back to Godhead, and thus He helps them by preparing the

transcendental literatures like the Vedas, by sending missionaries of saints and sages and

by deputing His representative, the spiritual master. (SB 1.12.16)

                                                                                                    Leaf 3
PIE 2: It Is the Duty of the Devotee to Preach

Because we have forgotten Krsna, Krsna has given us all these Vedas and Puranas. Krsna

also comes into this material world in order to remind us of Himself. In this Kali-yuga, people

are forgetting Krsna more and more. They are not even interested in Him, but Krsna is

interested because we are His sons. A mad son may no longer be interested in his home, in

his father or mother, yet the father never loses interest in his son. He is anxious because his

boy has left home and is suffering. Similarly, Krsna's son leaves the spiritual sky and takes

up one material body after another and in this way travels from one planet to another in

different species of life. Therefore Krsna comes to rescue him.

(TLK Ch. 16, texts 39-40)

                                                                                       Leaf 3

PIE 2.3: Lord Caitanya's order to preach

Spreading Krsna consciousness is Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mission; therefore His

sincere devotees must carry out His desire.... The devotees of Lord Caitanya must preach

Krsna consciousness in every village and town in the world. That will satisfy the Lord. It is

not that one should act whimsically for his own personal satisfaction. This order comes

down through the paramparä system, and the spiritual master presents these orders to the

disciple so that he can spread the message of Sri Caitanya Mahäprabhu. It is the duty of

every disciple to carry out the order of the bona fide spiritual master and spread Lord

Caitanya's message all over the world.

Cc. Madhya 16.64                                         Leaf 3

Srila Prabhupada's mood of preaching - Love of God

We don't want any numerical strength. We want one sincere person who as learned to love

God, Krsna. That's all. I have come to your country with this mission, and if I find one or two

boys or girls sincerely have learned how to love God, Krsna, then my mission is successful.

I'm not after any number of... Because if I can turn one soul to this Krsna consciousness,

he'll do tremendous work, because he'll be fire. You see? He can do remendous work. Ekas

candras tamo hanti na ca tarah sahasrasah. One moon is complete to drive away the

darkness of night, not millions of stars required. What these millions of stars can do? One

moon is sufficient. So our propaganda is to create one moon. You see? But fortunately, by

krsna's grace, many moonlike boys and girls have come to me. You see? Many moons.

(chuckles) I was thinking of having only one moon, but Krsna... I am hopeful that there are

many moons, and in future they'll be doing very nice. This is para-upakara. To spread this

Krsna consciousness movement is the best service to the humanity. Please try to

understand this. It is not a bluffing thing.
