Economics can be a difficult subject for students to grasp.  Using historical and popular music can help students to grasp these difficult concepts.  The pages of this site have been designed to provide resources for you to find songs that relate to specific US history economics standards.

Minimum Wage Project

The Cost of Living Project will give you one way of using contemporary songs as an introduction for students onto the complex world of living on a budget.  To introduce the project, play "Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman.  Discuss with students the economic factors that play into the narrator's story in the song.  Then give students an opportunity to live with some of those difficult economic factors.
