Shrouded in mist, warmed by sunshine. . . Bathed by rain, enlivened by birdsong . . . Instantly recognizable, the Champlain Lookout holds a special spot in the hearts of local residents. Set in Quebec, rising above the Ottawa River, the Lookout has attracted cyclists, photographers, hikers and artists, diverse in their interests, unified by their appreciation of the majestic panorama unfolding before them. In May 2009, Seven Artists who have painted together in the Ottawa Community for several years were drawn together by a shared interest in observing how seasonal changes in the physical landscape affect the artistic mood of the surroundings. The seven met each Friday morning between May and November to capture the spring, summer and fall as it touched the trees and valleys below the Champlain Lookout. Using a variety of styles and media, the Severn Artists here present their individual "Points of View", shaped by the weather, the black flies, and the need to look ever more closely to record the subtle changes from week to week at the Champlain Lookout. |
