SMART Document Camera

The SMART Document Camera is a product of SMART Technologies and uses the same software as a SMARTBoard. In many ways it acts as an overhead projector or opaque projector.

Connecting the Device

For most people, the camera will be connected with a projector and a laptop or desjtop computer.
  1. Connect the USB cord from the camera to your computer.
  2. You might choose to connect the RGB cable from the laptop to the projector. However, you may not want to do this with a desktop without a splitter to show the display on the projector AND monitor.
  3. Connect the DC cable in the camera to your power.
  4. Turn the power on the computer, projector and camera.
  5. Flip on the illumination lamp.

Camera Functions

  1. The AF button enables you to automatically focus on the camera image.
  2. You can rotate the neck of the camera 180 degrees and the camera head, down 90 degrees.
  3. The camera button will allow you to take a photo of the object under the camera.
  4. Hold the power button down for 3 seconds to turn off the document camera.

How can it be used?

  1. Take pictures of anything under the camera.
  2. Display printed materials with or without the stage.
    • Use it for reading. Place the book under the camera and the page appears on the SMARTBoard.
    • Show a printed graphic organizer to complete on the SMART software as a group (whole or guided reading).
    • Place worksheets under the camera. Students then go up to the SMARTBoard and fill in the blanks and erase the answers when you are finished.
    • Work problems on them by placing a blank piece of paper on the stage and save the problems for later use to review with the students.
  3. Display a 3 dimensional object to make it easier to view as a class.
  4. Display a microscope slide.
  5. Display an image from the SD card.
