Voicethread is a completely web-based way to create a digital story with several advantages over the previous two softwares. Using images, including PowerPoint slides, Voicethread creates an interactive slideshow. The author can narrate each of the slides, provide written commentary, and draw over the picture. Once the Voicethread is complete, it can be shared from the Voicethread website or embedded on any other website.
 Voicethread takes digital storytelling Web 2.0. Now other users (with Voicethread accounts) can comment right on your slideshow via audio or text. These comments can grow and become part of the overall presentation without altering the original. In this way, Voicethread represents digital storytelling and allows collaborative discussion.
Voicethread is a free site, but I strongly encourage you to use the educational subdivision. I costs $10 for a one-time verification fee to be used by you and $10 per month in order to have your own domain and students accounts (which incidentally can be setup without an email account). |
