Answers to your GASM 2006 questions
GASM, what's that? What happened to GASS?
GRU's April Silver Sombrero (GASS) mixer was a format test (Saturday, April 2, 2005). The mixer went so well that we've upgraded it to "Annual" status. Since the prizes will be different each year, we've hung the silver sombrebo on the wall. So, welcome to GRU's Annual Spring Mixer or GASM.
What is the GASM manifesto?
GASM is an ultimate fun-raising mixer geared to GRU players of all skill levels. GASM is a one-day coed warm-up for the 2006 GRU spring season and an opportunity to reacquaint yourself with the GRU ultimate community.
When is GASM '06?
Saturday, April 1, 9:45 a.m. start. Gates open at 9 a.m., last game ends at 4:30 p.m., and gates close at 6:30 p.m.
How does it work?
You must pre-pay to play. When you check in, between 9 and 9:30 a.m., you will receive a wristband with your randomly generated schedule for the day. Each game you be playing for either the BLACK team or the WHITE team on one of four fields.
If you manage to win or lose all four games, you will be rewarded with a nifty FEZ! The male and female with the best overall point differential (based upon your teams performance) will be crowned the King and Queen of GASM '06. The male and female whose stats are closest to the median for their gender will be celebrated as the offical tournament winners, aka Average Joe and Average Jane. Last years GASS winners were Grady Boles and Tanya Dueri, although it should be noted that Tyson had exactly the same stats as Grady, but lost on the final tiebreaker; shirt color. Unfortunately for Tyson, he wore black all day, while Grady went 3 whites and 1 black, closer to the average of 2 white and 2 black.
Who can participate?
Ultimate players over the age of 21. Since GRU is covering the field costs, its players have priority.
How many player slots are available?
There are very limited player slots available (112 players: 64 men and 48 women). Sign up ends when all the slots are filled!
What is the format (men/women)? 4/3
Why must I pre-pay to play?
Each player receives a unique, random, pre-assigned schedule. This will be given to you on a wristband at check in. This allows us to randomize the players that you play with (and against) and track individual player results for prizes.
Where is GASM '06? Stazio Softball Fields, Boulder. Google Map is here.
How do I sign up? The preferred method is online at https://registration.gru.org, other methods are outlined here.
What do I get for my $13?
- Four games of ultimate,
- a cool commemorative neon wristband,
- bagels, bananas, recharge, water,
- two kegs of tasty Boulder Beer (served whenever Grady finds the tap),
- Old Chicago pizza at 4:30 p.m.,
- and maybe, just maybe, some fine Redstone Mead.
- Plus, if you are lucky you will get felt (in the form of a nice FEZ!).
How does it work again?
Everyone has his/her own schedule, so you are on a different team each game. Space is limited, and you must pre-pay ($13) to play.
What do I need to bring? One BLACK shirt and one WHITE shirt, plus your normal ultimate gear.
Can I bring my dog? NO.
Can I bring glass bottles? NO.
Stazio, where is that again?
Take 63rd north from Arapaho or Valmont Drive/Butte Mill Road south from Valmont. Look for the softball fields with the "DIA-esqe" white tent structure. That's GASM central.
What if the weather is crappy on April 1?
If the weather is rappy on April 1, then the mixer will be pushed back exactly one week to Saturday, April 8.
What if I sign up, then cannot make it?
You can replace yourself with someone of the same gender. Just have him or her show up and take your place, but please keep us informed of all changes at gasm06@gmail.com. We may also be able to help you find a replacement off of the waitlist.
Is there a before and after GASM forum/chat?
