The Gang Green WC began as the brainchild of people that were devoted to the success of York College Wrestling. Alumni and coaches met to talk about the formation of a club that is available to any wrestler from fourth grade through college within a 50 Mile radius of York College of PA. Two years and three sessions later we are about to embark on a journey that will lead you to a higher level of achievement and realization. The coaching staff is primarily made up of York College wrestling coaches and alumni from around the United States. Though we primarily draw from South Central Pennsylvania it is not uncommon to see coaches drop in from New Jersey, Florida, and Delaware. The York College wrestling program has enjoyed and long and successful tradition that runs back into the 1970's. The current head coach, Tom Kessler has enjoyed immense success in his 17 years at the helm. Practices: Practices will place a large Emphasis on drilling foundational technique and solid position. When watching matches at any level, from elementary through the Olympics it is clear that precise technique and position win many more matches than show pony moves. Because this is the case we will focus here. Typical sessions will consist of Dynamic warm-up period Hard drilling period Technique Situational live periods Live periods Paced drilling Each night will also feature a 15 - 20 minute fitness segment that will be based in the functional fitness realm. Though this has become a trite and overused term we truly seek the most functional fitness for our athletes. Athletes will use a combination of Kettlebells, jump ropes, plyometrics, suspension work, band work, tire & sledge work, and good old fashioned sprints among a host of other fitness indicators to achieve a higher level of strength and power. Competition: At Gang Green we are concerned about all competitions, but some competitions certainly take precedence. We will be breaking our training into three segments this spring with a specific focus for each MAWA Eastern National Series (Specific Emphasis is on Souther Regional Qualifier at Shippensburg University 5 Apr 09) Phoenix Wrestling Association (Specific Emphasis on Freestyle/Greco-Roman Qualifiers and Championships) PAWF/USAW (Specific Emphasis on Freestyle/Greco-Roman Qualifiers and Championships) Gang Green Coaches will meet before the season and wrestlers will know in advance when and where they can expect gang Green Coaches. It is absolutely imperative that Gang Green WC wrestlers and parents get to as many open tournaments as they can, especially those in the York/Adams/Cumberland/Lancaster County Area. |
