I've started a new project. The Wings of War project worked out so well, that I thought it would be neat to have an on-hand selection of boardgames and card games our recipients could have on short notice. We've even have a few ready to go already. Check it out here: https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/home/projects/boardgames
Let me know if you'd like to donate to this great project.
Thanks, Jay
PS: If you haven't joined the Games for Troops Google Group, please do so. |

Regular old email just isn't cutting it anymore. So I've started a Google Group to help manage communication and collaboration. Check it out and join here:

I apologize for not putting out an update sooner. We have had some big news in the meantime.
First, some notes of thanks from our recipients.
Kelly, the recipient of the Dark Heresy project says: "We are have had some great games since your support was received! The guys can't wait for the weeks end so that they can get somemore. That said I have failed to provide you with a picture as of yet and will in due time make good on it. I have one away on Leave and upon his return will make good. Thanks again so much for your support."
Lou, the Wings of War recipient has this to say: "I just wanted to let you know that the package arrived today. It looks like everything is there, and intact. I'm busy today, so I won't get to the MWR tent to host a game tonight, but I will ASAP and send you some pictures to post on the website ...
"Anyway, thank you again. On behalf of the guys out here in RC-E, we appreciate the support you've provided and look forward to hours of recreation and decompression!!!!"
I have another fighter to send Lou and some 40K novels to send Kelly, so we're not done with these guys just yet.
So, project updates: Darkest Africa - We have a recipient now! We just need our dutiful painter to finish up the figures and the pledged dice and other accessories and the project will be ready to go.
Northwest Frontier - Recipient is also ready for this project. The pledged dice and accessories will put it over the top and it will be ready to go.
Warhammer Fantasy - We need dwarves! If you know of someone who has some dwarves that need home, here's a good one. The greenskins are at the painters. Some terrain is needed, but dice and accessories are pledged. No recipient yet.
Check Your 6! Jet Age - Terrain is at the painter, jets are in the pipeline. Mat, dice and accessories are in hand. No recipient yet, either.
I was entertaining the thought of opening up to include board games the likes of Settlers of Catan, Carcassconne, Descent, Command and Colors, etc. What if we send a game of this ilk and then a card or dice game or two such as Guillotine, Fluxx or Munchkin to our recipients? This way, we can just accept donations without regard to matching them up to particular projects. The recipients can then just pick and choose from a menu of selections.
So, that's it for now. If you have any suggestions, let me know.
Thanks everybody, Jay |

Our first project is out the gate! I just dropped off our first project at the post office here in little Pleasant Hill, IL.
Thanks to Paul, Aaron, Dave and Brett for their donations.
Thanks to Jake for helping get the word to our recipient about Games for Troops.
One down, as many more are needed to go.

Wow, what a week. We've had a number of new pledges, some new projects and recipients identified. So, the current statuses:
Darkest Africa https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/home/projects/darkest-africa Our original project has made some progress. We have all the dice, construction materials, play mat pledged now.
Northwest Frontier https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/home/projects/northwest-frontier The same donor of the Darkest Africa dice is pitching in here, too. I'll be printing some paper terrain shortly and this will be ready to go. We do have a recipient identified and just waiting on one or two more things to get it out the door.
Warhammer Fantasy https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/home/projects/fantasy-battle We now have a hardback Orcs and Goblins army book pledged. We still need a Dwarf army book pledge.
Wings of War https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/home/projects/wings-of-war This is ready to go. We just need a recipient.
NEW PROJECTS Check Your 6 - Jet Age https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/home/projects/cy6-ja My brother Chris is heading up collecting the items for this project. He have rules, a hexmat, dice and terrain markers pledged. We just need aircraft miniatures and flight stands to get this one ready.
Dark Heresy https://sites.google.com/site/gamesfortroops/40krpg This project is the result of a direct request from a deployed service member. This one should be ready to go next week. We're sending two Dark Heresy/Rogue Trader Warhammer 40,000 RPG supplement books along with a stack of 40K novels for inspiration.
I am in the process of reaching out to various veterans resources to find recipients. I'll keep y'all posted, as always. Also, I think I'll stick with weekly email updates.
Again, thanks to everyone for your pledges and donations.

We're back in the swing of things and moving forward. The Wings of War project is complete and we may have a recipient for it. I have sent him an email and await his response.
We also now have the accessories for the Northwest Frontier, Darkest Africa and Warhammer Fantasy projects pledged. Matt D. of the Bengal Club LA has pledged the dice, measuring devices, X-Acto knives and glue sticks needed. One step closer to completion! Thanks tons, Matt. |

John C. sent some lovely painted 25mm Pathans and Highlanders in Trews for the Northwest Frontier Project. Thanks, John!
Tony Reidy of Wargames Factory, one of our corporate sponsors, sent some lovely painted Zulus in 28mm for the Darkest Africa Project. Thanks, Tony and Wargames Factory!
Lori Brom of Sergeants Three Publishing, another of our corporate sponsors, sent copies of The Sword and the Flame for both the Northwest Frontier and Darkest Africa Projects. Thanks, Lori and Sergeants Three Publishing!
These projects are nearing completion. We still need dice and measuring devices.
Most importantly, we need recipients. If you know a gamer who is deployed "over there" and would appreciate any of our projects, please let me know. |

I apologize for delays in updates and contacting donors. I have received a number of packages and need to contact our generous donors. I will endeavor to get in touch with everyone I have not contacted so far by Wednesday of this week. There's no excuse for it. I was away for two weeks at an Army leadership course, but am back now and will get back in the swing of things.
In other news, I still need recipients. If you or someone you know is deployed to Afghanistan or Iraq and would enjoy any of these projects, let me know.
Thanks. |
