Hi, my name is Jay Arnold and I'm a gamer. As a gamer deployed to Afghanistan, I longed for a way to pursue my hobby. I was able to get the occasional fix with card and board games. But, I always wanted to play a miniatures game.

I've heard of gaming groups in Bagram and other allied bases popping up and would like to help these gamers pursue their hobby in a way I couldn't.

So, with help from some friends, I'm putting together a gaming project to be donated to troops "in the sandbox."

In the beginning
The genesis of the project lies in a member of The Miniatures Page community unknowingly purchasing some illegal recasts of 28mm historical wargame figures. It was suggested that the figures be donated to deployed troops. I can't claim credit for the idea, but I was asked for input and guidance in getting the figures to troops.

With that in mind, I reached out to number of other TMP members and started soliciting assistance in this effort. The criteria for the project were:
  • Enough painted figures for two sides to play a game
  • Pre-printed paper terrain
  • Hard-copy rules suitable for use with the figures
  • Dice and any markers necessary to play the game
  • A case to store and carry the figures safely
Our first project is set in "Darkest Africa." Details are still being worked out, currently. If you would like to assist with this or future projects, or know of a deployed service member who would appreciate receiving one of these projects, feel free to email me.
