Holy Family Catholic School was formed in 1986 through the consolidation of four existing Catholic parish schools. Its roots, however, extend far back into Galveston's history. The school is located on the original site of the Ursuline Academy founded in 1847 -- the first school in the city and the first Catholic school for girls in the entire state of Texas. The original building was destroyed by Hurricane Carla in 1961, following which the current structure was built in its place. |  |
