The Agricultural Proficiency Awards Program helps FFA members set goals and learn practical skills. This program rewards FFA members at the local, regional, state and national levels for exceptional accomplishments and excellence in a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program.
An SAE program is the actual, hands-on application of concepts and principles learned in the agricultural education classroom. Students are supervised by agricultural education teachers in cooperation with parents, employers and other adults who assist them in the development and achievement of their educational and career goals.
FFA members choose a type of SAE in their interest area. The four SAE areas are:
Ownership/Entreprenuership - Members plan and operate an agriculture-related business.
Placement - Members work for someone else either for pay or for the experience.
Exploratory - Members learn about the "big picture" of agriculture and its many related careers.
Research/Experimentation and Analysis - Members conduct research or analyze information to discover new knowledge.
There are 47 proficiency award areas. Students compete at the regional, state and national levels. National proficiency winners are named at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis during October.
