Soda Bread
2 cups all purpose flour                    2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder                1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt                            3 tablespoons butter/soft margarine
1 cup dark seedless raisins             1 cup buttermilk
1 tablespoon melted butter/marg       sugar to sprinkle on top

Preheat oven to 375°  Lightly grease small pan with vegetable shortening.  Set aside.  Assemble all ingredients.  Sift all "dry" ingredients into a large bowl.  Add soft butter/margarine.  Using a pastry cutter, cut flour mixture until it looks like crumbs.  Add raisins and toss thoroughly.  Add buttermilk.  Tir with fork until dry ingredients are moistened.  Don't over mix.  Using floured hands, gently gather mixture and press firmly into a ball.  Knead about 1 minute.  Shape into smooth round ball and place in prepared baking pan.  Flatten dough into a circle about 7 inches in diameter.  Cutting halfway through the bread with a floured knife, cut the bread into quarters.  Bake 30-40 minutes until golden brown.  Remove, brush with melted butter and lightly sprinkle with sugar.

Scones
1 1/4 cup flour                                    1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda                    1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt                                1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup butter                                     1/2 cup raisins (or more)

Mix dry ingredients.  Cut butter into dry ingredients with a fork.  Blend in sour cream and raisins.  Knead on slightly floured board for 1 minute.  Divide dough in half; shape into 1/2 inch thick circles.  Cut into six pieces.  Bake 10-12 minutes at 425° until lightly brown. (If dough is too dry add more milk)
