President's Message

"Advancement through Evaluation"

Greetings,

As President for the Sojourner year of 2009-2010, I wish to extend my fraternal regards to every Sojourner, Hero and to every member of the Masonic Community that is touched by this organization.

Since 2005, we have had a rush of work and responsibilities, and although we have done good work and service during this time, I feel that right now is the perfect opportunity to capture what we have learned and to evaluate our accomplishments and to polish up in training from our success and failures. Let us also take the time to train our new members and to ensure that they are confident enough to be able to leap in and participate so that by next year we can accomplish a great deal more. That being said, I have developed my theme and I have established four points that I wish to accomplish:

Chapter Goals for 2009 – 2010 - Four Points of Accomplishment

· Return to the Basics – This year, we will capture and evaluate our past shortcomings and successes so that we can define who we are and give our Chapter an identity and purpose via training and focus. We will also give special attention to enabling the Commander and each Committee head, that they will have clear oversight, and be empowered to dispatch the duties and responsibilities of their offices.

· Training & Education – We will ensure that each member will have the basic understanding of what it means to be a Sojourner and what it stands for. This will include establishing a training package to lay out pertinent information regarding regulations and bylaws as well as all funding programs (SEM Fund, 3-6-5 Club, etc.) from National. Training on Americanism programs will be made available to every member.

· Chapter Growth – As everyone is part of the Membership committee, I am asking that each member establishes a goal to bring in one member during this Sojourner year and we will keeps track of each members’ contributions to this effort. Furthermore, in order to begin membership involvement in the Chapter, I am asking that six or more present the "Toast to the Flag" for the first time during this year.

· Membership Resolution – My brethren, we are going to explore the possibilities of redefining membership qualification at National to allow for Active membership to every Masonic brother who has served this country honorably without diminishing or disrespecting the heritage of this organization and forgetting not "Whence we came".

Let us remember that our primary purpose is to focus on the Patriotism that each of us feel and wishes to convey to others; teaching what it means to be an American not through our military rank and service but through our military pride and experience. Let this love of country be embraced, shared and expressed by all who has ever donned the uniforms of our nation and let their experiences and values be added to the collective knowledge that we receive in our bonding and in our fellowship as both Freemasons and Sojourners.

Brethren unlike any currency that you may possibly be able to render another human being; Time is a precious commodity that cannot be replenished. I thank you for every second which you have and will offer me and for the all the support that comes with it.
Thank you.
