This flag was used by George Washington on his squadron of six schooners which he outfitted at his own expense in the fall of 1775. This flag was a variation of the New England Pine Tree flag. It was later modified and adopted by the Massachusetts Navy.

In honor of Fredericksburg’s own George Washington and America’s first Naval fleet that he personally-financed, our Heroes’ Camp is named in their memory, choosing the banner those vessels flew as our Camp’s own emblem.

The Heroes of '76 is a degree within certain Chapters of the National Sojourners.  Electing a fellow Sojourner to join the Heroes of ‘76 is an honor "in recognition of exemplary service" given to those who have "demonstrated their loyal support of National Sojourners, Inc."
 
Since before the American Revolution, American patriots have been prepared to protect and defend this bountiful land and its freedoms, with both pen and arms.  Today's Heroes of '76 of the National Sojourners, Inc. are committed to the freedoms we enjoy under our nation's Constitution and have committed their lives, fortunes and honor to its defense.
