About gentoo:it's a linux distribution being famous for its speed.For everything in the gentoo box is compiled locally(well,I mean built from stage1),so the binaries generated by the compiler fits the hardware well.Gentoo's performance on x86_64 is perfect,as well as good support of 32bit applications such as acroread,realplay and so on.

I am running my gentoo box on a 64bit machine:AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ with DFI nf4-d motherboard,geil ones DDR500 512Mx2 and Galaxy 7600GE.
