I'm sorry for the 37,000 people in the U.S. and Canada who will loose their jobs this spring. The company will probably officially close around March 31st after its going out of business sales and then the final liquidation days. For all intent and purposes, this sale will be one of the few meaningful merchandise sales the company has hosted in many years. I have two words about the closure: See Ya! In the world of Walmarts, Best Buys, H H Greg, and other similar competition, Circuit City willfully chose not to compete with its rivals from a consumer point of view. Sure it was a nice place to go perusing, but that is only because there was hardly ever any real shoppers in the store. You were accosted at times by multiple salespeople as you walked around the showrooms, but one thing would always quickly become evident: NO SALES HERE And even when there was a "supposed sale" it was not a sale. The reason was that you could always find a better price anywhere else you shopped. The best you could hope for was returned open-box merchandise which even then, often was priced higher than the same item elsewhere. Or that it wasn't worth the risk of finding something wrong after the purchase, having only saved a few bucks on something someone else already had their paw on before you. I used to be staunchly against shopping at H H Greg until I found out that these shewed business people would make you a deal before they let you go to Walmart or someplace else. Now unfortunately after this spring, it may be harder to get a great deal from H H Greg with Circuit City out of the picture, but maybe not, since Circuit City was never really a contender for your hard earned money anyways! |
