O SONHO IMPOSSÍVEL E O SONHO POSSÍVEL

 

 

 

Em 2011 realizar-se-á em Melbourne a quarta International Cup, o “mundial” do futebol australiano. A AFL, na qualidade de entidade organizadora, tem vindo a convidar os vários países em que a modalidade é praticada para declararem se pretendem participar.

 

Graças à existência e actividade deste site, Portugal também foi convidado, o que sucedeu pela primeira vez na história da competição. Sendo nós verdadeiros D. Quixotes do footy, declarámos o interesse no envio de uma equipa aos antípodas, para representar o nosso país.

 

Obviamente que participar na IC Cup 2011 pouco mais é do que um sonho impossível, embora daqui até lá muito possa acontecer. De qualquer modo, a AFL ficou ciente de que o interesse pelo futebol australiano já despontou na ponta sudoeste da Europa.

 

E, porque D. Quixotes somos, convidamos todos a acompanhar-nos na nossa investida contra os moinhos de vento e a fazer os possíveis e os impossíveis para que Portugal marque presença na IC Cup 2011.

 

Em Outubro deste ano terá lugar mais uma edição da EU-Cup, o “europeu” do futebol australiano. Como vem sucedendo desde 2008, Portugal também foi convidado a inscrever-se. A EU-Cup deste ano irá realizar-se em Espanha (Múrcia) ou em Itália (Milão), lugares muito mais próximos do que Melbourne.

 

Ir à EU-Cup não é um sonho impossível. É um sonho possível. Já fomos contactados por várias pessoas interessadas em praticar o futebol australiano. Quase que temos gente que chegue para formar uma equipa. Quem quer juntar-se a nós?

 

 

THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM AND THE POSSIBLE DREAM

 

 

In 2011 the International Cup, the “World Cup” of Australian football, will be held in Melbourne. The AFL, in its capacity as organizer of the event, invited the countries where the sport is played to declare their interest in taking part.

 

Thanks to this site’s existence and activity, Portugal was invited, which happened for the very first time. As we’re true Don Quijotes of footy, we replied that we were interested in sending a Portuguese team to the antipodes.

 

Taking part in the 2011 IC Cup is obviously little more than an impossible dream, although much can still happen in the meantime. Anyway, the AFL is now aware that interest in Australian football has already blossomed in the south-west tip of Europe.

 

And as we’re Don Quijotes, we invite all of you to join us in tilting at windmills and doing all that is possible (and all that is impossible, as well) in order to secure Portugal’s place in the 2011 IC Cup.

 

Another edition of the EU-Cup, the “Euros” of Australian football, will take place next October. Portugal was also invited to enter a team, which has happened since 2008. This year’s EU-Cup will be held in Spain (Murcia) or Italy (Milan), places that are much closer than Melbourne.

 

To take part in the EU-Cup is not an impossible dream. It’s a possible one. We’ve already been contacted by several people wishing to play Australian football. We nearly have enough people to form a team. Who wants to join us?
