Lyra

the acappella vocal ensemble from St Petersburg in Russia
will perform a Concert of Russian Sacred Music
and Traditional Russian Folk Songs on

Lyra are an a cappella vocal ensemble from St Petersburg in Russia. All four members of the ensemble were educated as opera singers in the St Petersburg Conservatory of Music. The ensemble is part of the Lyra community of soloists who take part in concert tours mostly around Europe as often as their own professional careers allow. As performers of some renown Lyra are dedicated to taking their particular 'style' of music to all parts of the world.

Their repertoire is extensive. As well as Russian Orthodox sacred music and traditional Russian folk and secular music, they perform romances and arias from operas by many of Russia's famous composers.

Lyra hope that through their music they might to bring the rich traditions of Russian music to people everywhere who are interested in Russia, its history and its culture. They regularly perform concerts in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Great Britain, Ireland, Sweden and around the USA.

Apart of their many concerts Lyra also take part in services at churches of many different Christian traditions during their tours. They consider these, not only as interesting multicultural events, but also as a wonderful and important ecumenical experience.
