What's Shakin'?

Talca Chile Earthquake Benefit was a hit!
We had a great turnout at the Benefit Concert on April 9th of more than 200 people.  They enjoyed a variety of music styles and local talent including Harvard High School’s own musicians. (Pictures and videos as well as information about the performers will be posted soon.)

The concert raised $1200 and the Fund total to date is $2085 – one fifth of the way to our $10,000 goal.
The really good news is that BCI of Talca has
pledged to MATCH the donations we are able to raise!!

BENEFIT
CONCERT
for TALCA, CHILE in Harvard, IL

March 23, 2010
On February 27th, the earthquake that shook central Chile was 500 times stronger than the one that hit Haiti.
Harvard High School AFS student Alvaro Lillo's hometown of Talca, Chile near the epicenter was devastated and cut-off from aid and assistance.

His family members and family home have survived the most severe earthquake in the world since 1900. But an additional 300+ aftershocks (some as strong as the Haitian earthquake) are an hourly occurrence. His own home had no electricity or water and the neighborhood was guarded at night by police to discourage break-ins to the dark houses.

A large percentage of the city has crumbled, hundreds of people have died, friends have lost their homes, streets he walked on to play soccer or get groceries a few months ago, are gone.  The damage is so great from the quakes and the tsunamis that aid was difficult to get to the people. They are suffering a huge crisis.

Alvaro
is spending this year in Harvard – when he returns home much of his world will be gone.  Harvard High School students want to help his town, his people and his family. Let’s make a difference.
