Membership

Some churches are easier to join than to stay out of.  Other churches put up high walls that make it very difficult to for anyone to become a member.  We don't want to go to either extreme.

We just want to help people understand the seriousness of their decision to become a member of a local church.  We feel it is consistent with the Word of God (I Corinthians 14:40) to let a prospective member know exactly "where the church is coming from."  Likewise, it is vital that the church (especially the leadership) know "where the member is coming from" in terms of spiritual growth, so that it may plan to effectively meet his/her spiritual needs.

While "New Member Classes" are very helpful in laying the groundwork for a long and happy relationship between an incoming member and his/her new Church family, we believe that personal counseling is also a "must."  There is something beautiful about sitting down with a person in their living room and taking time to make sure that there is total agreement as to what becoming a member really involves.

This is why the family voted to establish a "Welcoming Committee" to assist in receiving new members.  Everyone who presents themselves for membership in the church will not be voted on immediately, but will be counseled by the Welcoming Committee during the following week to make sure (1) that they are truly born again; (2) that they understand and accept the doctrinal position of the church, as well as the privileges and responsibilities of church membership; and (3) that they wholeheartedly and unreservedly commit themselves to the life and ministry of the church.  When this is completed, they will be recommended for membership.

Persons who desire membership in this local body may present themselves for membership in the church in one of three ways:
  1. By profession of faith, followed by baptism by immersion into the Body.
  2. By transfer of letter from a church of like faith and order.
  3. By statement of faith and previous baptism by immersion.
