After graduating high school in 1982, Eric attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where he swam on a swimming scholarship and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1987. During his time in college when he was not training in the pool with the swim team he was racing all over North America as a professional cyclist competing in many important events including the United States Cycling Federation National Championships, Pan-Am and Olympic Trials.

From 1992–1994, Eric gained international experience by swimming in South America for the country of Uruguay and competing against teams from Argentina, Chile and Brazil.

Over 25 years of aquatic experience have led him to coach excellent summer programs, age group and master’s swim teams in Indiana, Colorado, California and Florida.
Currently, Eric is the Head Coach for the boys and girls at the new Ponte Vedra High School.
