My aspirations are: To become the best I can be and play at the Olympics Games.

Tip for the top: Never give up..... Winners never quit and quitters never win.

Life after Water Polo: Hopefully still involved in water polo in some way or form.

Music: Anything except hardcore rock.

Scott Carpenter

Finest ever performance/Why: This year I scored 3 goals against Croatia, the World Champions, in the European Qualifiers, I was pretty pleased to hold my own against them.

First senior international meet: Egypt 2005

Role models: Lee Cooke because he has the hardest shot Lancaster has ever seen. Max Alexander and Floyd Mayweather.

My aspirations are: to lead the way in 2012 and be one of the best in the world

Tip for the top: I’ll tell you when I get there.

Life after water polo: I get one?

Music: smurfs go pop.

If I wasn’t a swimmer I would be an: entrepreneur

Biggest influence on career: George Carpenter, the Lancaster Seniors

 

Craig Figes 

Favourite event: It’s not really an eventbut I really enjoyed playing home games for my old club in Spain, as the atmosphere was fantastic.

Finest ever performance/Why: Winning the bronze medal at the 2002 Commonwealths, we won in extra time in front of an excited home crowd.


First senior international meet: 8 Nations tournament at Crystal Palace in 1994 

Role models: In Polo - Vladimir Vujasinovic (Serbian Captain) and in general - Roy Keane as he never gives up and has always spoken out about any issues he has within his sport.

My aspirations are: To compete at the 2012 Olympic games, there is no bigger aspiration.

Tip for the top: Keep your head when all around you are losing theirs.

Life after Water Polo: I’ll hopefully continue my work as a teacher but on a full time basis and may even coach a little water polo!

Music: Anything goes; I have wide ranging tastes in music.

If I wasn’t a water polo player I would be a: A professional lawn bowls player or a cricket commentator, anything that doesn’t involve early mornings!

Biggest influence on career: My Family and my girlfriend have always supported me.

Sporting Relations: My Nan was once a world record holder, my Mum was an international swimmer in the 60’s competing in the commonwealth games in 66, My Dad swam to a high level and is involved with coaching the GB youth water polo team. My sisters have all been involved in swimming and have competed in Synchro and polo at events including European and World championships .My girlfriend was a synchronised swimmer and coaches with the GB Junior team and last but not least all my cousins are involved with swimming and have competed at Europeans, Worlds and Commonwealth games.

 

Matt Holland

Life after water polo: Work and a bit of London League

If I wasn’t a water polo player I would be a: Sutton Spartan

Favourite event: Olympic Games

Finest ever performance/Why: Pan Pacific Tournament Calgary 2006. We came second ahead of New Zealand, USA and Canada. I scored 8 in the semi final against New Zealand

First senior international meet: Comen Cup 2008

Role models: Steve Redgrave

My aspirations are: To represent GB in the 2012 Olympic games and to play for a professional team

Tip for the top: Train at the same intensity as if you were playing a game

Life after water polo: Hopefully Teaching

If I wasn’t a water polo player I would be a: Student and probably playing Sunday league football

Sporting Relations: My Dad was a good athlete and played a high standard of both Rugby and Football

 

Rick Lawlor

Favourite event: My favourite event is when my club, City of Manchester play Lancaster in National League. This is always a close game. Any international games are always exciting and I’m always proud to represent my country.

Finest ever performance/Why: The trip that our junior team took to Slovakia and then on to the European Junior Championships in Istanbul. We took silver in the Slovakian tournament and we provided a sound performance. I personally scored a few goals but it was my part in the overall team performance I was happy with. I was very proud to be a part of the team and to travel to the European championships with such a great bunch of lad. I have only recently moved up in the programme and I hope to have more high quality performances for the senior team and to be part of the team looking forward to the 2012 Olympics.

First senior international meet: My first senior international experience came only in September 2008. I was moved up into the senior programme after competing in the junior Europeans for my age group. The team travelled to Malta to compete in the Comen Cup. We played French club team FNC Douai, Italian club team RN Sori, Greek club team Chania and the Maltese national team.

Role models: Steven Gerrard, Jason Robinson, Muhammad Ali, Lance Armstrong, Jimmy Bullard

My aspirations are: Continue playing water polo to my full potential and to help the GB senior programme progress. The ultimate goal for the team is to reach the 2012 Olympics in London. I would be honoured to be in this team and that is what I am working towards. I hope to finish my university degree in 2010 and after this I may look into travelling abroad to compete in a different league in another country

Tip for the top: My tip would be to always listen and respect your coaches. Get your head down and concentrate on improving always. Never be satisfied with what you have or have achieved, there is always more out there

Life after water polo: I have not really thought that far yet but I would like to look into coaching when I have finished playing water polo. Although I would still like to be playing when I’m 50.

Biggest influence on career: My old swimming coach Hayden Rigby. He competed at the Olympics and won a medal at the commonwealth games. He taught me how to swim, never give up and how to do press ups.

Finest ever performance/Why: During the European B Champs Manchester, played well and was our top scorer

Sean Ryder

Favourite event: LEN Europeans Nations Trophy June 07. This event was held in Manchester in front of a home crowd and we got the best result ever achieved in that competition, enough to go to the European A Qualifiers.

Finest ever performance/Why: LEN Junior European Championships 06. In the group stages versus Slovenia I scored two out of our four goals even though we ended up losing the match

First senior international meet: LEN Europeans Nations Trophy June 07

My aspirations are: To be a part of the Olympic Team competing in London 2012.

Tip for the top: If you want to get to the top, be prepared to work that extra bit more than other people and don’t take the easy way out when training gets hard.

Life after water polo: I’d like to have a family and a home to call my own and put something back into the sport I’m passionate about, by pursuing a career in Coaching.

Music: I like many types of music, from mainstream to the golden oldies. My only dislike is for Jazz, its random noise.

If I wasn’t a water polo player I would be a: Property developer or an Architect

Favourite event: My favourite was a tournament in Slovakia, where there were some really strong teams, but we got some really good results, and beat France and Holland
