Friends of Pennyrile Forest Foundation

Founded November 11, 2008

For the first time in the history of Pennyrile State Park/Forest, a group of volunteers from surrounding counties has partnered with state and local officials to form a non-profit organization called Friends of the Pennyrile Forest Foundation.

The purpose of Friends of the Pennyrile Forest Foundation as a non-profit organization is to aid and support the park and forest officials in developing recreational opportunities in Western Kentucky that will increase tourism to both the park system and surrounding communities.  Friends of Pennyrile Forest Foundation feel that increasing tourism will be beneficial to local communities by increasing  jobs and revenue in the area. The main interest at this time is the developement of horseback riding trails and facilities, mountain biking trails, hiking trails and improvement of camping and swimming area. The Friends of Pennyrile Forest Foundation also supports education with the Pennyrile Forest Outdoor Adventure & Field School.  The park, with picturesque landscape, is a premier wedding venue for the Western Kentucky Area.

The goal of Friends of Pennyrile Forest Foundation is to raise funds by membership, donations, and grants, and to raise awareness about the recreational opportunities within the park system.
Friends of Pennyrile Forest Foundation is looking for new members who are eager to aid in the process of developing tourism in Western Kentucky.  Our members include:  park and forest officials, county judge executives from Hopkins, Christian, and Caldwell Counties, heads of Chambers of Commerce,  many professionals and hobbiest.
