Freshmen Mentoring

Home

Freshman Mentors commit to serving as role models and helping freshmen feel as a valued part of NGHS through their motto:

“They won’t care what you know until they know that you care.”

They meet with their small group of freshmen during advisement time every Tuesday and Thursday with a goal of helping them be academically, behaviorally, and socially successful.  Freshman Mentors hold Lunch & Learn meetings to discuss lesson plans, to celebrate successes, and to dialogue about possible improvements.  The curriculum incorporates the following themes:  knowing yourself as a leader, setting ethical leadership, developing dynamic habits, communicating effectively, and the importance of establishing a mission and vision.
Beyond the leadership curriculum, mentors act as peer advocates and an extra support system through their advice and guidance.  They are often called upon to consult with visiting schools who want to learn how to implement peer mentor programs at their own schools.
