National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra course 2011

The 2011 orchestra course for the National Scout and Guide Symphony Orchestra will be held in Wokingham, Berkshire, from Sunday 31 July to Sunday 7 August.
This popular residential course with full board includes a professional orchestral conductor and support from professional tutors. Rehearsals are intensive but also interspersed with varied sports and leisure activities.
Participants will improve their orchestral skills, develop their creative talents, make new friends from across Scouting and Guiding, and have a lot of fun along the way.
Cost and requirements
The cost of the 2011 course is £395, including full board, and runs from the afternoon of 31 July to Sunday 7 August. The application form is below.
Participants must be:
- Scouts or Guides
- 13-25 years old
- proficient players of orchestral instruments (minimum grade 5)
Programme and performances
Music will be varied and challenging. Recent courses have included Holst's Suite 'The Planets', Shostakovich's Symphony No 5 Op 47, Grieg's 'Peer Gynt', Tchaikovsky's 'The Nutcracker', Bizet’s L’Arlésienne Suites 1&2, Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, and Symphony in D minor by Cesar Franck
Performances will be held in local concert halls on Friday 5 August and Saturday 6 August.
