Up in Smoke...

and still smoldering

At 8:20 PM Eastern Time on November 8th, 2006, my childhood home burned down. My parents (pictured below about a year ago with my son and my Fiance (their grandson and daughter-in-law, of course)), lost pretty much everything. Clothing, food, bed, baby pictures (of me, Matt's are digital and on my HDD, thank god), everything. My mother is disabled and needs constant supervision, which makes it challenging (to say the least) for my father to get any steady work. They're both over 50 (well, Dad will be 50 in May, sorry), and they have no savings to speak of (not by choice, just life circumstance like many of the rest of us).

I realize that we're all in tough circumstances from time to time, and there is no reason to choose my parents over someone needy in your home town (in fact if there's some one you know personally in this situation, I encourage you to give to them instead). However, if you do feel so inclined, any small donation (even just a buck or two) either from credit card or paypal (I'll even try to set up a Google Checkout if anyone wants) would go a long way towards getting them clothed and fed while they're getting back on their feet (I'm sharing with Dad, but I don't have too many clothes, and my Mom is smaller then my Fiance). I'm not even sure what more to say (I'm still in a bit of shock; my childhood was wiped out).

At any rate, here's some pictures of the devistation, and of course donation links. Even if you don't donate, thank you for coming and at least thinking of them.

Here you have the living room, and uh, my old bedroom (the living room on the first floor, the bedroom SHOULD have been on the second floor).

Here you can see a side shot of the porch, along with a bit of the living room.

And here we have the front door... and, uh, skylight.

EDIT: A lot of people are asking me what happened. Well, until we know for sure, I don't want to throw any in accurate statements out there. However, when the police report is completed, I'll say for sure (We're all thinking a malfunctioning piece of equipment).

Please Digg this if you came here from elsewhere.

At any rate, again, thank you for coming. Any donation you are able to spare is much appreciated.
