The instructions to build this Camera Obscura (click HERE) and faux wood sheet (click HERE) are also attached below at the very bottom of the page. I also included instructions to build a simple camera lucida.

The instructions and faux wood sheet are attached below.

Below I attached FREE instructions to build a relatively sophisticated Camera Obscuras far better then any pinhole camera. As you can see from the pictures the image you get will be up-side-down and relatively bright and clear. You will be able to focus on objects from 4 to5 feet away to far into the distance. Plus, there is a faux oak page that you can print-out to give your Camera Obscuras a real wood look.

 The dimensions are approximately: 4 x 4 x 8 inches (10 x 10 x 20.5 cm) for each Camera Obscura

You can buy the lenses (you will need one lens for every camera obscura) by following this link: Photobucket

This is a good place to stock up on a large range of optics and teaching supplies, so shop around after you get the lenses for the camera obscuras.

The rest of the materials and tools needed are easily found in most any household. They are for each kit:

A milk or fruit juice carton

A toilet paper tube

A small piece of cardboard

Black Paint (flat black paint works best, but any dark paint works)

A piece of Black construction paper

A small piece of wax paper

Tape

Exacto knife and/or scissors

Ruler or measuring tape

A pen or pencil

These kits will help students understand how Camera Obscuras works and what they are, so they can better understand the Camera Obscura's place in art history and the history of photography.

Building this Camera Obscura will teach how optical systems work in a real world application, so they can see and touch the concepts that you are teaching them like Focal Length, interference and light diffusion.

Children from 5 to 8 years old would enjoy playing with the finished product. Students from 8 to 11 years old will need some help building the project. Students and Camera Obscura enthusiasts from 12 to 18 years old and up can do most to all of the project by themselves with some supervision when cutting.

camera obscura direction are attached at the very bottom of the page. this is instructions on how to make a simple camera lucida:
