The District Grand Lodge of North
Queensland was originally formed as a Scottish District Grand Lodge on
7 May 1904 based in Charters Towers and the move to form the District
came from St. John's Davenport Lodge 33 U.G.L.Q. then 655 SC in 1903
(with that in mind, St. John's Davenport could be considered the Mother
Lodge of the District), it formally closed in 1922 after the formation
of The United Grand Lodge of Queensland in 1921.
The United Grand Lodge of
Queensland adopted the use of District Grand Lodges to assist in the
administration of such a large (geographically) state. There are two
District Grand Lodges in Queensland, North Queensland and Carpentaria.
North Queensland covers the area from Proserpine (south) to Ingham
(north) and to Mount Isa (west). Carpentaria covers from Cardwell (no
centre there) north and out to the Gulf of Carpentaria region.
There have been 36 District Grand
Masters since 1921, the first was MW.Bro. W.H. Green who went onto
become Grand Master of Queensland and controlled the present United
Grand Lodge as GM or Pro.GM for 17 of its first 25 years. The current
District Grand Master, R.W.Bro. Phil Geertz was installed Dist.GM by
M.W.Bro. Adrian Burton GM at an Open Ceremony of Installation on the 21 May 2011.
