Then it is about time you said hi to Linux and there is no better window of opportunity to learn more about the free and open source (FOSS) movement than at the Russian Cultural Centre on Kasturi Ranga Road this Sunday. The Free Software Team of Tamil Nadu are gearing to launch a Tamil version of GNU/ Linux operating system in presence of Kiran Chandra of Free Software Foundation. West Bengal Minister for Information Technology Debesh Das will speak about free software in governance. Chennai Mayor M.Subramaniam will speak on the topic “freedom-information technology” while N.Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu, will speak on “freedom in software and media”. Chennai has plenty of open source software communities and the organisers of the conference have said the event would be a great place to network.
