Dutch Family Records

My great grandma, Kathryn (Tryntje) de Jong Pia did a lot of family history and temple work. I am currently working on getting all the data she collected on to the New Family Search website and get any temple work that she either didn't get to before her death or that she wasn't able to do because the people were still living. Her Dutch Family Group Record is over 1000 pages. What an inspiration she is. I'm not sure when the photo to the right was taken but this is the book of family records Grandma Pia assembled over the years shown in its place in her home. It was her life's work.

I realized after moving to Korea and having my copy of this family record shipped here that it would be such a tragedy to lose it. I don't know how many hard copies there are out there. I believe that my mother, Angela Marri Welch Mecham, has the original. In any case, I felt that it was important that more people than just a handful have access to these documents, so I have scanned the copy that I have.

Below are links to sections of the record divided by the first letter of the last name of the head of the household i.e. the records are typically listed under the father's last name; however, in the case where there was an illegitimate child, the family is listed under the mother's maiden name. The pages of the record are more or less in alphebetical order by last name. I hope that you find these records valuable. My favorite part of having gone through these records is seeing all the little comments that Grandma Pia wrote about each family and the letters that she wrote in Dutch requesting information from those in charge of the Dutch Archives .

As a side note, any documents that contain information about individuals that are less than 100 years old have been edited to protect their privacy. Information such as birth dates, marriage dates, and addresses I covered in red on the scanned image of the record. If you are a family member and would like this information, please email me.  If you are one of those individuals whose name appears on the records and feel that the edited document still contains too much personal information about yourself, please contact me and I will be glad to remove anything that you feel uncomfortable with.
